"No, I'm in the middle of about five cases-"
"Well, can dad? Or is he 'too busy', too?", she asks sarcastically. "Can you just come get me?"
"Why?"
"Because at lunch, some loser dumped his tray and got spaghetti sauce on my jeans."
"No, Bradley, you'll be fine. We're backed up today."
"But they're white and its on the crotch part!", Dodds walks in uninvited. "I can't walk around like that!", Olivia makes eye contact with him.
"You can and you will."
"But-"
"But nothing. I love you, have a great day and learn something, okay?", she sighs. "Learn something really cool and come home and tell me about it!"
"Mom! That's not fair!"
"I'll see you when I get home.", she hangs up the phone and leans back in her chair. Her fingers run through her hair. She rests a hand on her stomach without thinking, but doesn't move it. IT feels comfortable there, like it belongs there. "Can I help you?"
"Can I ask what that personal call was about? Why it was happening with all these cases open, needing to be solved?", leave it to him to make her day worse.
"My daughter got her period..", she lies. "..and wanted me to come get her. I told her that wasn't an excuse and that her favorite jeans can get-"
"I don't actually care. Listen, close these cases and you can talk about whatever to whoever whenever. Just not now.", she rolls her eyes and puts her glasses on.
"Anything else? Or are you just gonna stand there and stare?", she can see Nick coming towards her office and desperately just wants a hug from him. "Bye!", Dodds groans loudly and walks out without saying a word.
Nick walks a little faster, noticing her office is empty with the exception of his wife. It's been a long day and he needs some quiet time. What better place to get peace than with your wife, right? Exactly right, at least for today.
"Hey, babe.", Nick says just before kissing her. "How you feeling?"
"Honestly? Exhausted. I'm so tired and the day is nowhere near over.", she rests her hand on her nearly flat stomach and sighs. "I blame you."
"Have you eaten yet?"
"Eaten? I've barely peed today.", she laughs to herself. "I am starving though!"
"Okay, well lets go grab lunch and take a breather."
"Nick, I have so much paperwork to catch up on, and-", he interrupts her, not letting her talk her way out of it.
"Paperwork can wait a half hour. Come on. You're eating for two and I can hear your stomach growling.", they both chuckle. She finally agrees and he takes her to a café up the road. They order their food and Olivia immediately starts talking about work.
"..I just don't understand how a woman could ask their husband to beat her to get rid of her unborn child-I don't care if its not his kid, I-"
"Liv, calm down. You don't get to be Lieutenant Benson right now. Right now, you're just Olivia and Olivia needs to eat more and talk less, got it?", he jokes. She rolls her eyes and buries her face in a double bacon cheese burger with extra bacon. "Good?"
"Mmm..god, yes! This tastes so good!", she exclaims with a mouthful of food.
"Slow down, don't make yourself sick."
"Yes, mom.", she ignores him and continues eating at the same pace. Boy, was that a mistake! She had eaten two of those burgers, both with a side of fries, a piece of cherry pie, and half of Nick's chicken sandwich. On the way back to the 1-6, all she did was complain. "I'm about to puke, Nick, pull over!"
