"I just gave you the OK. No more questions," I say into the phone to Calum. Resting my arm on my desk, I bring the covers around my shoulder for more warmth. That time spent rolling in the snow with Azalea hadn't done much good for me.
"But... what happened?" Calum asks.
"Nothing."
"You wouldn't sound this salty if nothing happened," he replies.
"Okay," I purse my lips. "Fine. She's different around me. She doesn't want to talk. She doesn't want to see any of us, not even Michael. I found a random guy's number on her phone. She yelled at Harry. This isn't her. No matter how stubborn she gets, she doesn't try to hurt other people. She's hurting me."
"Ashton. She hasn't changed. She was just drunk last night." Calum sighs.
"But what about this morning?" I ask.
"She's on the second day of her period and has a wicked hangover," Calum replies matter-of-factly.
"Okay, well, it's pissing me the fuck off. Why do I even try, when she clearly doesn't like me? Do you know what she said today, when I told her I like her? She asked, 'why?' and that was that. Heck, why do I even like her? Why am I still here?"
"You like her because she's Azalea," Calum says simply. "Listen....if you're having second doubts, maybe... she's not the one for you."
I pause. "What are you talking about?"
"Love shouldn't feel like that. Let her go. If she's hurting you so much, it may just be the best thing to let her go."
"You can't just let someone go. You've seen how that worked out for Azalea so far."
"Okay, it was just a maybe. A suggestion. I'm just saying, keep that option in your head. Now that you're done the project, you can back out of this anytime you want. Just be assured wherever Azalea goes, there will be drama. Because she's just that type of a person."
Yeah, I know exactly what type of a person she is. That's the problem.
"Now, I can talk to her today, right?" Calum changes the subject. "Tell her about Michael and me, in a proper way this time?"
"Yeah, just don't bring Michael along. I don't want her to flip out."
"Michael can't be seen with her in public anyway. Restraining order," Calum reminds me.
"I thought the restraining order was already gone."
"In a few days," he replies. "Everyone forgot about that restraining order, anyway."
...
When the phone call with Calum ends, I open the small notebook I found on my desk. Then I think about everything I've been through so far. Completing Calum's year-long project, that took up most of the year. I haven't finished it, not completely, but as much as I could. And completing the rest is up to Azalea now. If she chooses to love Michael, then it means I've failed.
In angry scribbles, I start to write ;
You call me up,
It's like a broken recordI've already dreamed about kissing her. Heck, I was tempted to kiss her in the snow just a few hours ago, if only I wasn't so pissed. No, I don't imagine kissing her the way I did when I was still horny and still sleeping around; but right now. Right now, I should've kissed her.
Saying that your heart hurts
That you never get over him getting over you.I imagined Azalea was everywhere.
