BACK AT THE CAFE
Soo Hee's pov
"Sooo.... yeah that's what happened" eomma finished up. By now, my mouth was gaped open, not because I was mad at her for not telling me sooner but it was due to the fact that I was in such disbelief.
I never thought I had a brother older than Youngjae oppa. I thought he was the firstborn in our family. But, I guess not, not for real anyway.
"You're saying I actually have a brother who's older than Youngjae oppa... Am I right?" I asked, still trying to comprehend all the things eomma just told me.
She nodded timidly. "It's okay eomma, I'm not mad at you for not telling me sooner. No need to be sad or anything like that okay?" I assured her.
She looked up smiled. "Really? You're not?" I grinned and shook my head.
"And... You still haven't found him?"
Eomma slowly shook her head.
"Your appa and I tried really hard to find him. We checked the hospital and they said that there weren't any patient with our family name, Bae. We also went as far as going to every orphanage there is in Busan but we still couldn't find him. The police also failed at finding him" she explained with tears brimming in her eyes.
Even though I was not there to witness what had happened, I understood her in this situation very much. He's her son, also her firstborn. That just increased the pain she was feeling. I pulled out a tissue and wiped her tears.
I rubbed her back telling her she could continue. "Your appa and I were in vain and it was the same for Youngjae"
"After finding out that he was missing, Youngjae cried for days, weeks and months. He was very little at the time and didn't understand much about why his hyung suddenly disappeared"
"He didn't do anything crazy after that did he?" I butted in.
"No, but he became extremely depressed. He never wanted to attend school and was always by himself. He had no one to play with. But thankfully, he changed after Seyoung came" eomma smiled.
"Okay, I've understood most of the part you've spoken about but, you still haven't explained to me about why you looked restless when you saw Ken oppa" I said, my eyebrow raising.
"It's because that Ken boy looked very much like him"
"And.... that's all?? I don't think that's the only reason though" I asked again, trying to dig for more info as much as I can.
"No, that's all. I can assure you on that" she honestly admitted.
"Okay then, bu- oh yeah, I almost forgot that you still haven't told me about my older brother's name"
"Huh? I didn't tell you? Well his name is, Jaehwan. Bae Jae Hwan"
Again, my mouth opened so wide, a car could go through it. "Aayye eomma, don't kid around with me" I bursted out in laughter and gently pushed eomma.
"Hah I know right, it's such a nice name but yeah, his name really is Jaehwan." eomma smirked crossing her arms over her chest.
I abruptly stopped laughing. "Are you serious?" I pressed as I eyed her. "Yes of course, there's no reason for me to lie about your brother's name Soo Hee-ah" she shrugged.
"Ahh" was my only response. "Why are you being like this anyway?" eomma asked with wonder.
I held myself together. "Eomma, that Ken boy who you mentioned looked a lot like Jaehwan oppa, his real name is Jaehwan" I spoke silently, almost whispering.
She immediately looked up at me. "Mwo? Surely it's just a coincidence... Right?" eomma asked, looking somewhat hopeful.
"I don't know" I whispered shaking my head. In that moment, I swore shivers went down my spine. It purely could be just a coincidence... But what if it's not?
Eomma leaned forward. "Soo Hee-ah, tell me more. What else do you know about him?" she asked in a hushed tone. I told her his age.
She did some calculating in her head and almost jumped up on her spot. "Your brother has the same age as him" I couldn't tell her anything else. It was the only thing I remembered about Ken oppa's info- since he's not my bias.
"Is he adopted?"
"No, I don't think so..."
