My palms were sweating again.
I had just performed at my first live show. I was standing backstage, watching people nervously bustle around me, smelling the nervous sweat wafting throughout the area. The sweat emanating from my palms was slowly going away, as was the nervousness. I was lucky enough to perform first. The words from the judges lifted my self-esteem, but still, it was at a low of -5,000 out of 10.
“That was the first way I had ever heard that song performed! Great job!”
“I am you’re fan. I would totally buy you’re songs on iTunes.”
“Those high notes really showed off your range. You’re mentor must know what he’s doing.”
“I see you going on to the next round.”
I was still debating on whether my life at that moment was dream or reality. I had made it to the live shows of the X-factor, one of the biggest televised talent shows ever, I was going out with Kyle Stone, I was going to meet Distant Melody that next day…did I mention I was going out with Kyle Stone?
“Hey, Alex!”
I turned to see Leah, running up to me.
“Hey, Leah what’s—“
“They’re here,” she replied, with an intense look on her face.
“The Deatheaters?!” I gasped and looked around frantically. Leah smiled and rolled her eyes at my Harry Potter mention.
“No,” she said smugly, “guess.”
“Um…the Black Plauge?”
“That makes no sense…”
“The British?”
“Well, 4/5…”
“HOLY SWEET NIBBLETS DISTANT MELODY ARE HERE?!”
“Yah,” she said, “I’ve been trying to tell you!”
“Eep! Where are they?” I asked her as we went to sit down.
“Well, right now they’re sleeping—“
“Fredrick’s naked.”
“—And they’re rehearsing tomorrow and we are allowed to come watch if we want to.”
“Excuse me while I go shrivel up into that corner over there and die.”
Leah laughed and we continued the conversation. Then she started to talk about her boyfriend, Jake. Yes, the kid from before. “And he’s such a weirdy, I love it!” She really did love him. You could tell the way her eyes lit up at the very mention of his name. I wondered if my eyes lit up at the mention of Kyle’s name…
“You’re thinking about Kyle, aren’t you?” Leah said, interrupting my thoughts. I looked up, just realizing that I had even looked down to begin with.
“How can you tell?” I asked her.
“Well, you do this huge smile and you look down, slightly blushing,” she replied, causing me to blush. She smirked and I facepalmed.
“Well…you…er…I can’t say anything, all you do is light up your eyes.”
“I what?” She said, half giggling.
“I mean your eyes light up…” I said, reminding myself how Kyle’s eyes light up when he talks about his music.
“And you mess up sentences and zone out.”
“Sweet dang flabbit nibblets,” I mumbled, “why must I be mentally awkward—I mean socially awkward—I mean…ugh…you’re right…”
“I always am!” she chirped, “It’s time to go.”
