"My love for you is eternal, but I'm not sure about your trust after I do this." He was looking at me in the eyes. I knew that something was wrong. He was never serious, especially at our place-the garden. It was my birthday. It was the same day that he had first shown me the garden. Well, night, that is.

"What do you mean?" I asked him as the sun began to set. "After you do what?" He glanced at the sunset as if it were a deadline of some sort. Then his gaze returned to me.

"Just..." he sighed, "just know that I love you, alright?" I nodded, starting to get worried. What was he about to do? He acted as if he were about to go on and murder someone. My vision got blurry and I realized that I was on the verge of tears. I couldn't help it. My hormones were a mess.

"I-I know. I love you too, but why are you-" He cut me off my kissing me passionately, bringing me back to the beginning of that summer-the night I gave him everything. He stopped and let go. He was crying. He never cried unless he was watching Titanic. My heart was hammering against my chest. Why was he acting like this?

"I love you and I always will, okay?" His voice was quiet and rushed, "but I have to do this. I have to leave you I...I..." He shook his head and looked me in the eyes again, but this time, they weren't full of worry and care. They were crazy. His expression plain, he shoved me aside and started to walk away. I ran to catch up with him. I wanted to know where he was going. I wanted to go with him.

"Where are you going?" I asked once I caught up with him. I realized he was heading to his car. "Hello-o? Earth to-AH!" I fell to the ground, feeling the sharp pain in my stomach. I watched as my hand became soaked in blood. "What...why...?" I looked up at him, tears streaming down my face. I wasn't crying because I was in pain. It wasn't that deep of a wound. No, it was much more than physical pain. It was more emotional. I looked him in the eyes and saw nothing. No sympathy, no worry-nothing. Was he insane? Maybe he was. His eyes flickered and I at once saw his expression. His hand went to his mouth and his eyes began to water.

"No..." Even though his voice was muffled by his hand, I could tell his voice had faltered. "No." He fell to his knees and reached out to help me. I flinched away.

"Why..." I couldn't speak. I was too baffled to say anything. I was too terrified to do anything. His crying became harder at the sight of me flinching away from him, his best friend since first grade. He threw his beanie down and ran his hands through his hair.

"Alex..." His voice cracked. "Alex, I am so sorry I...I don't know..." He took out his phone. He dialed 911. After he hung up, he threw his phone angrily at the weeping willow. The screen immediately shattered. I looked at him. I was scared of him. What had he done? Did he realize how big of a mistake he had made? "Fuck!" He punched the brick wall that enclosed the garden. His knuckles started bleeding. He kept punching the wall. I was frightened. I had never seen him like this. He was always so gentle, so sweet and funny. He never cussed. He was never violent.

"Why did you...?" I croaked. He stopped and looked down at me. The realization of what he had done hit him. He kneeled down next to me.

"Alex?" His voice cracked again, but his voice had softened to his normal tone.

"What?" I whispered, realizing that it was the only way to talk to him without crying.

"I have-" He looked up to the sound of sirens. He helped me up. That was when I realized how much damage he had done other than the obvious. I winced and moaned as he picked me up and walked me over to the ambulance. They took me from him and laid me down on the gurdy. They motioned to him that he could come in the back with me, but he shook his head. I looked at him. He looked at me. We both looked at the blood coming through my shirt. We both knew it. He hadn't only killed my trust. He had killed our happiness, maybe even forever.

He had killed a human being that never even got a chance to live.

The EMTs closed the door and I was hooked up to IVs. I want listening to the bustling around. My ears were ringing. I wanted to focus on that. I didn't want to hear them gasp. I didn't want to hear them tell me what I already knew. They opened the doors of the ambulance and the sun blinded me. The sun was too happy. I didn't want the sun to be out. They rolled me into the ER where they gave me drugs to go to sleep. My eyes felt heavy and I was out.

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

Somebody was holding my hand. I looked over to see him sleeping, his head on the bed, but his hand still tightly gripped on mine. I felt the urge to scream. I didn't. I felt woozy, but not that woozy. I attempted to sit up, but my head hurt every time I moved, so I stood still. I squeezed his hand. His head groggily went up and he immediately looked alarmed. "Alex, are you okay?" He placed his hand on my arm and I flinched back a little. His eyes fell. "I am so sorry, Alex. I couldn't help it I have this-"

"Miss Moore?" We both turned to face a doctor. "Hello, I'm your doctor, Dr. Halp." He held out his hand. I released mine from my ex best friend and shook with the doctor.

"Hi," I said, my voice hoarse, probably from all that crying I had done yesterday. Dr. Halp turned to him.

"May I speak to Alex in private, Mister...?" The doctor asked.

"Edge's my last name, sir," he replied as he got up, "and yes." He walked out the door and shut it. Dr. alp turned to face me.

"Nice young man," he replied, "is he your-"

"He's nobody," I said quickly, "you wanted to talk to me?" I cleared my throat. I never liked having a hoarse voice.

"Right." His face got serious. "We ran some tests and it seems that..."

"It's dead," I croaked, "I know."

"Well, yes, but that wasn't what we found."

"What did you find then?" What was he talking about?

"The weapon that caused the wound was covered in some sort of poison," he said, "you're lucky that you're alive. Usually once that type of poison gets into the bloodstream the person dies immediately."

"Poison?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

"Yes," he replied, "but other than that, you'll be free to go by this afternoon." He smiled and walked out, causing him to walk back in.

"What did he say?" He asked. I looked at him in disbelief.

"You know exactly what he said," I snapped. He looked at me. He looked like he was honestly confused. I didn't buy it-maybe only a little.

"No, I..." he looked around, like to check if someone were listening in. "Alex, I can't be near you. I...I have problems."

"Obviously."

"I know I should've even left as soon as they told me..." He shook his head and looked at me. "I have to leave you. Maybe someday I'll come back and I'll be cured and maybe you'll be able to forgive me." One of his tears fell onto the sheets. "Until then, know that I will be in love with you. I will not be happy until I see you again." He cupped my face in his hands and kissed me. I didn't flinch. He let go and he didn't say another word, as he walked out of that hospital room, out of my life.

As I drifted off to sleep, I heard the distant sound of screams and people shouting. Little did I know my parents were the ones screaming? The doctors were the ones shouting.

And he was the one laughing.
