The Awkward Encounter

I remembered a few things about him.
He was about average height, with thick black hair and shining blue eyes. The bluest I had ever seen.

I'd gone over and introduced myself, and he'd bought me a drink. A friendly drink, of course. But what had started out as a friendly drink had become much more than that. So much more, in fact, that I had woken up with him, completely naked, in my new houses' living room. A way to christen the threshold.

But as I rinsed the shampoo from my hair and thoughts from my memory, I believed that I couldn't forget about him. There was just something that wasn't quite right.

Anyway, the fact was, I had to put it in the past. I had much bigger things to worry about today.

Starting as an intern at Seattle Grace Hospital was a pretty big deal. I mean, I know there were going to be others like me, starting for the first time, but I felt as if I'd be alone and useless, just an unwanted piece of trash burdened on the attending's.

However, I pretty much crapped myself when a tall blonde girl approached me and asked who I was with.
"Um..Dr. Bailey?" I basically asked her, even though she had posed the question.

She had long legs and dazzling white teeth, and nothing looked too big for her face or misplaced. She must have been the model everyone was telling me about.
"Yeah, I got her too.." She mumbled, flicking her long hair behind her shoulders.

"Who, the Nazi?" A guy asked from behind me.
"The Nazi?" Me and the model girl replied, as he nodded.
"Apparently she's brutal.." He added, staring at his sheet. We stared at him some more. He did a sort I double take.

"Oh, I'm George, by the way. George O'Malley.." He smiled, holding out his hand. I hesitantly took it, trying to smile as best as I could.
He kept looking at me even after I had turned my back on him.
"Izzie.." The blonde girl said, shaking his hand also.

There was silence for a few minutes before the girl who was called Izzie leaned in closer to me.
"Who's weird girl over there?" She asked, indicating to where Cristina was sat down, looking around the reception area.

"Oh, that's Cristina. She's not really weird, you just have to go talk to her.." I said, looking across to where the black haired woman sat. She had introduced herself about fifteen minutes earlier hence me already knowing her name.

Izzie mumbled something but didn't go over.
"Ladies.." I heard a smug voice say from behind us. I saw another guy holding a clipboard, who also looked like an intern.
"Ugh, that's Alex.." Izzie whispered as he smirked at me.
"What's wrong with him?" I asked, as he was pretty good looking.
"He's just a dick. Stay away from him.." She replied simply, as I nodded.

The wait for the call to say we could go and meet our bosses came, and George sort of skipped ahead of the group, looking pretty nervous.
I was pleased to see Cristina head my way and not so pleased to see Alex follow me and Izzie.

"Hey.." Cristina nodded at Izzie, who smiled back.
"Hey.."

We were stopped in our tracks as the door opened and there stood a small African American woman in a lab coat and scrubs.
"That's the Nazi?" Izzie asked incredulously, as Alex sniggered.
"I guess so.." I shrugged, taking a step closer.

"You must be the new interns?" She asked, turning to us, looking a little bored.
"Yes.." We all chorused.
"Follow me." She said. I looked worriedly at Cristina, whose turn it was to shrug.

"Ok, I'm going to go through five rules I want you to follow for the next seven years of being an intern here, ok?" She asked, not tuning back as she made her way down corridors.

"Number one, don't bother sucking up to me, because I already hate you." She said dully.
Oh.
I like to think I'm a precise person, as when she'd finished giving out another three brutal orders, I blurted out what everyone else must have been thinking.

"But that's only four. You said there was five.."
She stopped at the door, looking at me with an unreadable expression.
"When I move, you move." And with that, she burst through the door, the rest of us following close behind.

The next hour or so was spent going through the hospital, getting to know where everything was and how the system worked.
After meeting the chief and proving Alex wrong, I was feeling pretty happy in myself. This wasn't going to be a disaster.

"Ok then. I'm going to be giving you the attending's your working with over which area.." Dr Bailey said, flicking through pages on her clipboard.
She read off everyone's name apart from mine and Cristina's.

"What about us?" Cristina asked, and she turned round, starting at us, before looking back her notes.
"Yang, cardio with Dr Burke, and Grey, nuero with Dr Shepherd.." She said quickly, before walking off.

"Dr Shepherd?" Izzie asked me.
I nodded.
"Lucky.."
"Why?"
"You don't know who Dr Shepherd is?" She asked. This time I shook my head.
"Well, you will in a few minutes.." She smirked, before prancing off to her attending's office.

"Dr Shepherd, Dr Shepherd.." I recited, my eyes scanning the names on the wooden doors.
"Dr Shepherd!" I said triumphantly, reading the name on one of the doors.

Knocking, I heard a male voice shout something. I assumed he meant enter.
However, I really wished I hadn't, as as soon as I laid eyes on him, I recognised him as the guy who had been laid on my floor this morning. After I'd had sex with him.

Great.

He obviously knew who I was too, as he smiled a little cockily, gesturing for me to sit down.
"You must me Dr Grey?" He asked, clearly amused. I, however, was not.
"Yes.." I replied, sitting on the chair.
"This is a nice surprise.." He smiled. I scowled at him.

"Listen. We need to forget what happened last night. This is inappropriate. You are an attending. My attending! And I am an intern. This.." I said, gesturing to us. ..did not happen. Ok?"

He shrugged, leaning back in his chair. God, he was good looking.
"I guess so, if that's what you think.."
"Yes, it is what I think, ok? We need to forget about it.."
He shrugged again, before starting on a few things about Neurosurgery.

Maybe this wasn't going to be as easy as I thought it would.
