Mortified

I left about an hour later, desperately pulling my top back on and making my way to the locker room. It was way past the time that I had been granted permission to leave, and I just hoped I wouldn't get questioned by the others tomorrow on my whereabouts.

"Meredith, wait!" I heard him call from behind me. I hastily looked round to make sure there was nobody close by, before marching back towards him.
"What?" I asked impatiently, putting my weight on one leg the right side of my hip dropped slightly.

"Why did you do that?" He sighed. I opened my mouth to speak.
"Well excuse me..but I think that it takes two people to-"
He put his finger over my lips in attempt to shut me up, I think.
"Shush!" He whispered angrily. Suspicions confirmed.

I grabbed his hand and pushed it away from my face.
"You shush!"
"I wasn't being loud!"
"Neither was I!"
"You were in there.." He shrugged, a small smirk playing on his lips.
I shook my head in disbelief. "Your so..so.." I racked my brain to find of the best word possible.

"..so..annoying!" I shouted. He chuckled slightly, running a hand through his now messy hair.
"I didn't hear you complaining when we were ripping each other's clothes off in there.." He nodded to the half open door in which we had been in not one minute ago.

"It was one time..a-" I tried to protest.
"-two, actually.." He interrupted. I shot him a death glare.
"I still hate you. And you still hate me. That's the point I'm trying to get across, without you interrupting every five minutes thank you very much!"
"But we haven't been talking for five minutes..?"

Was he trying to be funny?
I sighed heavily, before proceeding to strut away again.
"No, wait!" He said, grabbing my arm and turning me back to face him.
"Please let go of me, Dr Shepherd.." I said professionally, attempting to writhe from his grip.

"Mer, I don't hate you.." He sighed, staring right into my soul. At least, that's what it felt like with those damn blue eyes.
"Oh, please-"
"No. I've never hated you. Actually, I really liked you when we met in that bar weeks ago. And after you kicked me out the morning after, I was disappointed..like, really disappointed. I suppose I've only been acting like a jerk to get your attention. When I realised you were on the intern list, I felt a little happier. A second chance.."

I felt my heart flutter slightly at not only his little speech, but the way he shortened my name.
"No, Derek, your just saying this.."
"I'm not, though! Which is why I'd like to give you this an ask you to accompany me to restaurant sometime, maybe?" He asked, biting his lip.

At first I wanted to laugh. I wanted to laugh at the stupidity of his proposal. As if he actually thought he could charm his way out of this by pretending to like me, then stabbing me in the back (metaphorically, of course) just like every other guy had done.

"Are you crazy?" I asked him, in such a calm way I actually surprised myself, much less Derek.
"N-no?" He replied, sounding confused.
"Well you obviously are. If you think I'm gonna go on some sort of romantic rendezvous with you after you've acted the way you have with me, your so much lamer than I thought. It's also highly inappropriate for an attending to have a relationship with his intern.." I stated. Harsh but at that moment I didn't give a damn.

"But I never asked for a relationship, I just asked if you'd let me take you out somew-"
"See?! That's exactly what I mean! You're such a know it all! It's like you think it's funny to correct my mistakes or something!"
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I don't just do it to you, you know!" He said, and I hated to admit, but he did look pretty genuine about it.

"Forget it, Derek. I was meant to leave more than half an hour ago, anyway.." I grumbled, making my way down the corridor. I didn't hear any footsteps behind me, so I thought he must have for the message.

However, after changing and grabbing my things, heading out of the locker room occupied by the interns, I was not pleasantly shocked to see him leaning against the wall opposite to the room I had exited.

I shook my head, narrowing my eyes.
"Will you please leave me alone?" I asked, taking my car keys out of my purse.
"But, Mer.."
"No. Meredith." I said. He sighed, folding his arms.
"Fine. Meredith.."
"And drop the attitude.."

Now I knew I was being a bitch, but I was technically not at work, so he couldn't do anything about it.
He obviously knew that too, as he swallowed, looking like he was trying to contain his anger.
"You know, even when you're being like this, I'd still happily take you out to dinner.." He shrugged. "You can't put me off.."

Jesus, he was persistent, I'd give him that.

After minutes of silence and thinking from myself, I posed the question.
"If I take that little piece of paper you still have in your hand with your number on it.." I said, gesturing to his closed fist in which a bent white corner was poking out of a small gap in between his fingers. "..and say I will consider your offer, will you leave me alone?"

He turned to face me, smiling widely.
"Yep" he replied, popping the 'p' as if to prove a point.
I sighed, before holding my hand out for him to give me the paper. He walked towards me and placed it in my palm. I then stuffed it into my jacket pocket.

"Thanks.." He said, still grinning.
I waved my finger in front of his face.
"Hey, I said I'd consider. I never said it was definite.." I warned him. I turned and started walking back down the corridor.
"Good enough for me!" He called back.

I started walking away, smiling slightly for some reason.
"Oh!" I heard him shout. I turned to see him looking at me. "And good work today, Dr Grey. Once again, you've shown great potential!" He winked then disappeared into a room.

I waited for the click of the handle to say it was safely shut before strutting out of the hospital and back to my car.
