"Dr Grey.." I heard a snide acknowledgment come from behind me. I scowled immediately as I turned to face the voice.
"What do you want?" I snapped. He raised his eyebrows in an amused fashion."Somebody's not a morning person.." Derek Shepherd replied, standing next to me and checking the board for surgeries.
"Shut up and leave me alone!"
"I'm checking the surgery board..you know, the one that every intern, attending and resident has to look at every time they start a shift?" He shrugged. I fucking hated him and his cocky attitude.Instead of finding anything to say in response, I turned on heel and stormed off down the corridor to find Cristina. I could practically feel his eyes burning into the back of my head, probably accompanied by that stupid smile of his.
I quickly span round, catching him having a good look over at my ass. He looked up, clearly embarrassed. It was my turn to be in control now.
"Oh, and Dr Shepherd?" I asked sweetly.
"What?" He growled.
"Please stop looking at your interns inappropriately, or I may have to report you.." I finished with a triumphant grin, before disappearing round the corner, concentrating too much about what I was now going to tell Cristina than on seeing Derek's reaction.-
She was lounging in the corridor where the interns normally sleep on night shifts, perched on the end of an unoccupied hospital bed.
"Cristina?" I said a little cautiously, as I'd found her out to be a little snappy when unwanted company approached her.
There was no reply.
"Hey, Cristina. Is it ok if I sit next to you?" I repeated. She looked up slowly, nodding a little. I sighed and took a seat beside her, staying silent for a few minutes."I have something to tell you. I mean, it doesn't really concern you, but I feel I'll go crazy if I don't tell someone.." I blurted out. She looked at me, a confused look passing across her face momentarily.
"What is it?" She mumbled. I sighed, trying to gather all the courage I could to get it out."I slept with Dr Shepherd" I finally stated. Her eyes went wide and she finally looked a little interested.
"You what?!" She repeated. I shook my head.
"Don't make me repeat it.."
"You slept with McDreamy?!" She shouted, and I hastily covered her mouth with my hand.
"Ssh! People will hear you!" I hissed, realising we weren't the only ones in the deserted corridor anymore. "And who?""McDreamy.." She replied nonchalantly, pulling faces as I removed my hand from near her face.
"Ew, your hands taste of scrub wash.."
"Mcwhat?!"
"McDreamy. That's what everyone calls Dr Shepherd.." She shrugged. "And I cannot believe you slept with your attending!" She continued.
"Well, he wasn't exactly my attending at the time. It was the morning I started here. More of a one night stand thing after too many shots of tequila.." I explained."Was he good?" She asked.
"Cristina!" I squealed, slapping her arm. "This is serious!"
"Sorry. But was he?" She persisted.
"Yes, he was. Well, from what I could remember. I was pretty drunk anyway..." I admitted.
"And you've not told anyone else..?" She asked. I shook my head.
"Not even your mother?"That question threw me for a loop. I hadn't told anyone about my mothers condition. She had Alzheimer's, and more or less the late stages too. It was my secret, and I had to deal with her.
"No, not even my mother.." I sighed.
"So what? Are you just gonna ignore each other like it never happened..or..?" She said. I shrugged.
"I hate him anyway. He's arrogant, big headed, rude and his hair is way too moussed.." I snorted. Cristina smiled.
"It is a little.." She replied. We sat there for a moment, embracing the silence.
"Anyway, you looked pretty down when I sat down here a moment ago.." I said, because she didn't look herself.
"Oh no, it's nothing.."
"Didn't look like nothing to me-""Dr Grey! Dr Yang!" I heard a shout from behind us. We turned to see Dr Bailey standing with her arms folded to her chest.
"Dr Bailey.." I addressed.
"Oh no. Don't you Dr Bailey me.." She warned. Great. Getting on the wrong side of Miranda Bailey was a fabulous way to start the morning."Have you not got places to be?" She asked. I shook my head, and so did Cristina.
"Well I'll give you places to be. Here.." She said, handing us two files. "Room 207. There's a patient with a tumour on his brain. Present him and asses him. Now go!" She ordered.
Both of us jumped up and rushed up the stairs, not saying a word as we entered the room.-
Just as me and Cristina came back to Room 207 for our second check on Janice Winters, the patient with the tumour, we were interrupted by the door slamming and Dr Bailey walking up to us.
"Yang, can you prep this patient for surgery on your own?" She asked suddenly. Cristina nodded slowly, unsure of why she asked.
"Good. Grey, your wanted in Surgery room 3.."
I was taken aback a little. Interns were almost never allowed in the surgery rooms this early on."What? Why?" I asked. She raised her eyebrow, before checking the patients heart rate and blood pressure.
"Dr Shepherd has requested you to scrub in.." She explained.
I shot Cristina a nervous glance, and she stared at me back.
"Well, I mean-can't somebody else do it?" I asked nervously. Cristina shot me a look as if to say 'what the fuck?'."No, I'm afraid not..." She replied in monotone. "And anyway, what kind of doctor are you, passing up on surgeries?"
I gulped, before handing the files to Cristina.
"Ok, I'm going.."-
All through the surgery I felt him looking at me. His eyes were boring a hole in the side of my head, and I didn't feel comfortable at all.
I met his gaze a few time, his lagoon blue eyes dazzling in the light. He did have nice eyes.
"Can you pass me the scalpel again please, Dr Grey.." He asked, which threw me back into reality.I was staring at him. He caught me staring..
I thought, embarrassed that I was the one showing the most interest now.
I passed him the instrument and even got to look in the microscope to see the parts on the tumour removed on the brain. It was only after we had finished and I was scrubbing out that he said anything other than technical to me.
"Good work, Dr Grey.." He smiled as he began washing his hands in the basin next to me.
"Why did you request me?" I asked bluntly as possible. He dried his hands and untied his scrub cap before turning and replying."Because I realise you have potential, Dr Grey.." He smiled. I sighed.
"Are we just going to keep on doing this?" I asked.
"Keep on doing what?"
"I told Cristina, you know.."
"Told Cristina what? And who's Cristina?" He asked again.
"Cristina Yang. She's another intern like me. And I told her about us.."He sighed, closing his eyes and leaning against the wall.
"Is this Cristina Yang going to tell anyone?" He asked.
"No. I don't think she will.."
He took a breath in, as if he was going to say something.
He didn't."So what you mean, is are we just going to keep on pretending like nothing happened between us?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah. That's what I mean.."
"Do you want to keep on pretending like it never happened?" He persisted.
I nodded. "Yes. Yes I do.."
"Then we will.." He said, walking towards the direction of the door."Have a pleasant rest of your day, Dr Grey.." He smiled, before opening the door.
"Oh, and turn the lights out when your done, please.."
He shut the door and I was alone with my thoughts again.
