"Ooh, somebody looks a little grumpy today!" I heard a voice behind me.
"Can you please shut the hell up, Alex. I'm not in the mood!" I snapped, emptying the contents of my bag into my locker."Jeez..sorry. Hangover? Or..?" He asked. I shook my head.
"I've just had a lot of things on my mind.."In short, my mothers condition had severely worsened over the past few weeks, I had a ton of paperwork to complete for the programme, and I still had to get back to Derek on that proposal, which I had actually been seriously considering.
"If it's paperwork, I feel you. I have loads to do by the end of this week.." He tried to empathise with me.
"Ugh, paperwork is such a bitch!" I heard a groan behind me. "Oh, hey Meredith!"
Izzie's sudden change of tune always cheered me up a little."Hey..good old Bailey, huh? Giving us so much we actually start to consider our health levels.." I muttered.
I saw Cristina slope in, looking a little worse for wear."You look great.." I sighed, sitting down beside her.
"Thanks.." She muttered. I was half expecting her to rant at me, which proved she was feeling way below what she usually was.
"What's up with you, happy feet?" I teased, trying to get a reaction.
She just shrugged, hair falling loosely down her shoulders.I exhaled in exasperation.
"Well I was going to ask you a favour, but you don't look like you're up to it.."
She looked up at me.
"No, I'm fine. What do you want?" She asked. I smiled slightly. She always enjoyed doing something."I have these.." I produced around ten pieces of printed paper. I made them last night, after making the decision I wanted a few house mates. Maybe only two or three, just to keep me company. The house was so big, and quite frankly a little creepy until I had enough money to redecorate. I didn't really fancy staying on my own.
"House mates?" She questioned, reading the paper. I nodded.
"I really need them at the moment. I've never been one for living in big groups but I hate being alone in that house.."
"Aw, I could always move in if you want?" She replied casually, standing up to head out of the door.I laughed. "Yeah, great.."
She turned to look at me. "No. Seriously. I live in a crappy flat with even crappier heating. I couldn't think of anything better.."
I narrowed my eyes. "You do realise you have to pay, right?"She groaned. "I'm not gonna rob you of your property, Meredith!"
I shrugged. "Sorry! Are you taking the piss or are you actually serious?" I asked.
She stared at me for a while."Do you not want me to move in?"
"No! No, I do, I just didn't know-"
"Well then it's settled. You tell me how much rent per week to start with, see how it goes. Then we can go into months.." She smiled, before walking out to pin the rest of my papers on notice boards round the hospital. She's perked up... I thought to myself. At least sitting at home on a night wouldn't be as boring anymore...
-
"Good morning!" I said, breezing into the canteen. Alex raised his brow at me.
"Wow, you've perked up. So has Cristina. Has something possessed you?"
I sat down next to George. "Ha ha, very funny. Do you see how much I'm laughing?" I asked sarcastically, showing him my blank face. He held his hands up defensively."No. I've just found my first house mate!" I declared, in which I got blank looks back.
"House mate?" George asked, biting into his ham sandwich.
I nodded. "Cristian's moving in with me. I need two more people now..""Why do you need 'house mates' anyway?" Izzie asked, who I didn't even realise was sat next to me.
"I-I just..it gets a little lonely, you know? I could do with a bit of cash, too.."
It was only a half lie.
