"You should go get ready..because I have to start my shift in an hour.." I whispered into Derek's ear as he was curled up with his back to me in the bed.

He mumbled something extremely inaudible, before turning over to face me, not opening his eyes.
"I'm not kidding..and I'm not leaving you in this place, because Izzie, George and Cristina are moving in tonight.." I whispered to him like he was a child.

After weeks, they had finally all managed to sell up their places. I wasn't so sure about Cristina moving in now she was pregnant, because this was not really a child friendly environment; but I didn't want to kick her out before she'd already moved in. What kind of friend did that?

"I'm not gonna be here till tonight..give me the key and I'll be out before lunch.." He groaned, finally opening both eyes and rubbing them sleepily.
I shook my head, placing my head near his. I guess you could say I was trying to play the nice, caring 'girlfriend'. Quotation marks were needed at this point because we didn't really know where we stood with each other.

I was mainly putting on this act so I wouldn't make him go all distant again like he had yesterday. I didn't like it, especially the actual talking to him about it part.
I'd invited him round for a drink and to talk, then confronted him. He'd denied anything being wrong (not that I'd blame him if he didn't want to tell me anything that was bothering him) and then apologised for the way he'd acted. He put all of it down to the amount of work he'd got, and then the pressure of the patients, chief and none other than his own family.

A few shots of tequila and scotch's later, we were involved in some sort of make up sex issue, which led this bed scene happening this morning.

"I'm going to wake you up now, and you're gonna get ready, ok? Do I need to drag you out?"
He turned to face me, squinting as he was also facing the window with the half open curtains.

"You're so bossy.." He grumbled, a faint smile playing on his lips.
I smirked. "It's one of my many talents I learnt off my mother.."
Pecking his lips quickly, I jumped out of bed and gathered my scrubs and purple cotton shirt I wore underneath.

I quickly stepped in the shower, turning the hot water on and letting it cascade gently down my back. I half expected him to come and join me, but he never did. Shrugging that off me, I then began to get dressed, then brushed my hair furiously, realising I'd spent an extra ten minutes in the shower.

I went back to my room to find Derek styling his hair in the mirror. He spent more time on his appearance than I did.
However, when I turned my back to check my messages, he snuck up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist.

"I was wondering.." He began, as I giggled at the vibrations he was sending down my body.
"Uh huh..?" I asked, smiling.
"..If you would like to accompany me to dinner tonight?"
I pretended as if I was debating it for a while.
"I don't know. What time?" I teased.
"What time do you finish..?" He murmured, kissing down my neck.
"Seven." I replied.
"Then how about I pick you up from the hospital and then we come back here to get changed..?"

I sighed at turned to face him. "We can't! George, Izzie and Cristina will be here.."
He sighed, looking at me. "Then you take the clothes you wanna wear to the hospital, put them in your locker, then I pick you up from Seattle Grace and we go back to mine and get changed?"

I shook my head again.
"Why?" He pouted. "Do you not wanna go out or something..?"
"No, no. It's not that. It's just-what am I gonna say to the three of them? 'Oh, take the key and open up and unpack yourself, I have a date tonight'?"
He looked at me, staring right into my eyes, giving me the 'look'.

I stared back for a few seconds, before giving in.
"Oh, fine! I'll make something up.."
He smiled, kissing me softly before relaxing his grip around my waist.
"Great, now let me brush my teeth, then I'll drop you off.."

I smiled to myself as he dashed off to the bathroom.

-

"So, if I give you this, Cristina, and you just let yourself in.." I handed her the spare key as the three of us were sat down eating lunch in the cafeteria.
"Wait..what?! Where are you going then?" Izzie asked, staring at me. George was looking at the key now in Cristina's palm.
"And why the hell does she get the key?" He asked.

I sighed, rolling my eyes. "Izzie, I told you, it's none of your business, and George, I trust that Cristina won't lose it.."
He mumbled something, stuffing a mini sausage roll into his mouth.
"Have you got a date..?" Izzie teased.
I glanced at Cristina, who looked back at me briefly.
"No! Why the hell would I have a date?!" I lied.
She eyed me suspiciously. "I don't know..why would you?"
I stood up, grabbing my empty plate.

"I need to get to this patient.." I lied, walking away.
"Wait! Meredith!" Izzie shouted.
"I'll see you later on tonight!" I shouted over my shoulder, not looking back.

After I'd made it out of the cafeteria, I leant against the wall and sighed. Keeping this a secret was not going to be as easy as I thought it would be.

The only thing that had made me smile properly that day was when I saw Derek walk through the hospital doors, grinning at me after he's slid his phone back in his pocket.
"Hi.." He said, approaching me. I smiled.
"Hi.."
"Are you ready?"
I nodded. "Yeah..I think so.."
"Come on then, we need to hurry.." He said, grabbing my hand.
I shook it away, and he looked back at me, confused.
"What?"
"We're still in the hospital?"
He nodded, releasing his grip.
"Oh, yeah. Sorry.."

As he began to walk away I stopped him again.
"Listen, Derek.."
"Yes, Meredith.." He imitated my tone, turning back round to face me.
"I want to ask you something. Something that's been bothering me.."
He nodded, trying to look understanding.
"Can we not have this conversation in the car?"

I ignored him and continued talking..looking down at the chair next to me.
"It's just that..well-I didn't know what we really were, like-"

I was cut off by a woman's voice interrupting me.
I glanced up to see a tall, beautiful red head stood next to Derek, staring at him coldly. He was staring back at her with equal disgust.

"Long time no see, Derek.." She spat. He shook his head.
"What the hell are you doing here, Addison?" He whispered dangerously.
"Excuse me?" I asked, trying to get their attention.
The red head, obviously named Addison, did a double take, then turned and smiled at me. A forced smile, I could tell.

"Sorry, I don't believe we met.." She said, holding out her hand for me to shake. I gingerly took it.
"..Addison Shepherd.." She said while our hands were together. I quickly dropped it.
"Did you just say 'Shepherd'?" I asked, my heart sinking. I looked at Derek briefly, who was staring at the floor.

"You must be the woman who's being screwing my husband?" She continued.
I felt like a tonne of bricks had been dropped on me the minute she said the word 'husband'. Of course, just as I'd assumed. I was a fucking mistress, and even worse..I hadn't realised...
