The cats followed Bramblestar's gaze, staring at the blocked out sun in wonder and in grave silence. A gentle breeze brushed their fur, almost comforting them in some way, almost saying; 'It's alright, everything's going to be okay.'
"So many questions already," Mistystar murmured, her gaze lowering and focusing on the ground. "Yet so many things this place has yet to show us."
"Will we even make it out alive?" Rowanstar asked aloud.
Bramblestar narrowed his eyes. "Let's hope that Starclan will still guide us out of here, if they're even in these skies."
Dovewing angled her ears. "We better get going," she mewed, "I think the 'thing' you just fought just brought it's entire family."
And with that, the group of cats made it's way into the safety of the underbrush the way they came.
Jayfeather padded beside Dovewing. "So it looks like you have your power back, how does it feel?"
Dovewing didn't answer him. She kept leading the way carefully, but her eyes shined with so much relief and happiness, it almost looked like she was about to burst into a feathery cloud of joy.
Jayfeather just shrugged and continued walking, for he could already tell what she felt.As the patrol let the lost and wounded leaders and healers back to their makeshift camp, Bramblestar noticed a scuffling of sounds and strange pairs of eyes looking curiously at them in the corner of his vision, or at least, he hoped they were curious and not hostile. The cats felt a stiff tension in this unexplored forest and a trace of fear scent lingered.
"Dovewing, have you found Squirrelflight? Are the kits alright?" Bramblestar asked the warrior.
Dovewing hesitated, "I really don't know." She mewed as she angled her ears for any signs of danger. "A few other patrols went to search for the ones who stayed at their camps, so they might have found them."
"But," Berrynose suddenly growled behind them. "The other patrols are from different clans each , so if they say that they'll ever find them, I wouldn't count on trusting those guys."
"Are you saying that my clan would break the warrior code and hurt queens and kits?" Littlecloud challenged. "If you're saying that, how will we trust yours?"
Berrynose glared at the tiny tom for a few moments before giving an ill-tempered snort and then looked away.
'Littlecloud's right on that one,' Bramblestar silently agreed to the medicine cat's reply. 'If we can't trust them, they have a right to not trust us either.'
Suddenly Dovewing halted in her tracks.
"Everyone hide!" she hissed.
All the cats heads shoot up in panic as they look around wildly for a hiding spot. everyone split up rapidly in categorized groups towards a bush or in the tangle of roots of a tree.
Bramblestar and the rest of the leaders were camouflaged under a dark juniper berry bush (or so he assumed) as he carefully peered out to see what was coming. Dovewing and the rest of the patrol were huddling under a bright golden-green shrub as she looked at her leader and tilted her nose to the direction where the danger was coming from. Suddenly Bramblestar could hear it too, it sounded like the ground was shaking bit by bit as it grew louder. The nervous cats prepared for the worst as out bounded...
A rock.
Complete with tiny rock feet and something that you may as well call it a rock tuft directly on it's head, and one, hollowed out yellow eye.
