Chapter 14
LEA
"Trevor... Why do we have to do this again? We both know this is going to end in a disaster!"
"Lea, I promise you that it won't happen again."
"How can you promise me something like that?"
"I... I don't know. Just trust me. You do trust me, don't you?"
Did I trust him? Maybe I did, but I still didn't want to admit it. Trevor and I have been standing outside of Melissa's house for 20 minutes now and we still haven't come to a consensus on what to do. After we had our talk in the lounge, I decided to tell Miss Leona the truth about me in hope of getting some answers. Well, I didn't tell her the full truth, but hey it was a start.
I may have stretched it a little to save time and avoid questions that I didn't know the answer to. My brain was aching by that point from the amount of new information I learned and I just didn't have the energy to explain my story for the second time that day. So I sort of lied.
I told Miss Leona and Dakota that the person who killed me was my stalker. This wasn't a complete lie, considering that Cane basically is a creepy stalker and has been stalking me for gosh knows how long. I just decided to leave out the parts about me trading my soul, about Cane being an angel and basically anything that could be entirely out of this world.
Miss Leona shot me more questions and yelled at Trevor for being irresponsible for not telling my parents. This is when I interrupted and said that telling my parents wasn't exactly the best idea since they already thought Trevor was a nut-case. She asked why they thought this, and then this led to a whole lot more of explanations.
After about an hour of telling little white lies and bending the truth (it may have been easier to tell Miss Leona and Dakota the truth all along, but there is no going back now) Miss Leona finally dismissed us, saying that she was going to do some research on my "reflection condition." I was very eager to get out of there and avoid Dakota's hateful glares, but I was again disappointed when Trevor asked me about the people who were very important in my life. Without knowing where his question was leading, I answered and soon, we found ourselves out front of my human best friend, Melissa's house, arguing about if we should knock on the door or not.
Trevor said that we needed to find the conflict that was keeping me on earth. I was pretty sure that conflict was my parents, since I never said goodbye to them, but we already tried that and look how that turned out. I'm worried that I'm going to black out every time I talk to someone I love, therefore taking me further and further away from my chances of getting off this planet.
"Come on Lee, we've got to start somewhere alright? Forget about what happened at your parents' house, this is someone completely different. This is your best friend. She misses you and she probably wants to know where you are and if you're safe, okay?" Trevor was talking to a pillar on Melissa's front porch, which kind of made me giggle. I was a little over five feet away from that pillar, so he was talking to nothing. He tries his best, I'll give him that.
"Fine, okay..." I giggled. "By the way, I'm a little to the left. That pillar seems to be treating you nice though."
Trevor sighed and ran his hand through his hair. "And you couldn't have told me that before I was busy making a fool of myself?"
"Well, you already do make a fool of yourself for just being you so..." I shrugged nonchalantly, with a knowing smirk on my face.
"Ouch, that was uncalled for!" Trevor took his hand and put it on his chest as if he's been shot. So overdramatic...
