Chapter 16

CANE

What the hell. That’s all I can think.

What. The. Hell.

Love is completely unpredictable. Actually, let me rephrase that. Girls are completely unpredictable. One minute they love you and kiss you to your heart’s content and the next minute, they go run off with another guy!

The thing I don’t understand is that I did absolutely nothing wrong and yet I still find a way to get punished. All I want is for the girl of my dreams to love me and be with me forever. Is that too much to ask? Can’t angels be in love too?

You’d think that if humans can create the mythical angel of love called ‘Cupid’, then angels that really do exist can find love. Yeah right, what a load of crap.

I would love to fall for an angel of my kind, but unfortunately, I am the only angel on earth. All of the angels that exist in the universe and beyond have all have been created for a specific purpose and my purpose is to control the ghosts that are stuck on earth. Lucky me. Not to mention that having the devil as your labelled father is a real turn off for girls. (He is my labelled father because I don’t have a biological father since I’ve never lived)

Simple-minded humans think that ghosts and angels are the same thing when really, we are complete opposites. Besides the obvious fact that angels are more superior compared to ghosts, there is an obvious difference that we angels envy the most: ghosts have had a chance at life.

All ghosts do is whine and complain about how they didn’t get to say goodbye to their families and how their life ended too soon. Well, try not having a life at all! You don’t see me whining about it! I’m just glad that they are all locked up and out of my way, so I don’t have to deal with it anymore. Well, not all of them are locked up. Lea is still out there with that stupid idiot.

“Stupid idiot? Really? That is the best you can think of?”

“Lex, shut the hell up okay? I didn’t ask for your opinion,” I didn’t have time for her smug talk. She’s just mocking me because Lea is still out there and not with me, but with someone else instead.

“Well, you should have used your brain before you said your thoughts out loud. News flash Cane, she doesn’t want to come back to you! And neither did I…” She mumbled. I could clearly make out her image behind the glass wall that was holding all the ghosts. Lexi is the only ghost that still talks to me and I think that’s because she still has feelings for me. I was her first love, but I also took away her life. I’m surprised that she had the patience to talk to me at all.

“You’re just angry because Lea actually likes me, alright? You tried to leave me and look where that got you!”

Lexi sighed from the other side of the wall which created condensation to form. Her arms were crossed in frustration which means that she was angry. Good.

“I don’t want to argue Cane, alright? I didn’t try to leave you… I just changed.” She turned her back to me and leaned against the glass.

“Changed? You don’t know what you’re talking about…” I lied. I did know what she was talking about. Lexi used to be a half-human half-ghost, just like Lea, until one day, she became one of them and decided to join their side. Letting Lex go was a mistake that I would never make again. I’m going to fight for Lea and we are going to stay together forever.

I sat on the leather couch across from the glass wall and sent daggers through Lexi’s back. She doesn’t understand. She broke my heart by leaving and now she has to pay the price. Join the ghosts and you’ll be trapped forever. That’s what you should expect from the devil’s son, I thought. I chuckled at my inside joke as reached for my only prized possession and the only thing that was more important than my love Lea Jacobs.
