Chapter 17

LEA

Thump-thump.

Thump-thump.

Thump-Thump.

The noise of the heartbeat increases with every passing second. My head starts to throb and the pounding in my head echoes like a metal gong.

Thump-thump.

Every second, there is a new beat that joins with the pounding inside my head. I try to cover my ears, hoping to protect myself from the piercing sound, but I have seemed to have lost the ability to use my limbs.

Thump-thump.

My head is spinning. Where is this heartbeat coming from? It must be the cause of my intense pain.

Thump-thump.

My chest starts to burn like crackling fire. I try to scream, to alert someone or anyone out there who is willing to help me. My throat runs dry and no sound comes out. The burning and thumping increase.

Thump-thump.

I start to gain feeling in my muscles again. I fumble with my hands and touch where the intense heat is coming from. I place my palm in the centre of my chest and feel the pulsing thump within me.

Thump-thump.

The heartbeat is coming from inside me. It is my heart.

Thump-thump.

Wait... I have a beating heart?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I awoke with a start with my hand clutching my chest. My breaths were ragged and uneven as if I hadn't had oxygen in days and I could feel the cold sweat that caked my arms, as well as the goose bumps.
What the hell was that? I can hardly remember, was it a vision maybe? All I remember is the sound of a heartbeat... a heart beat that I can't feel in my chest anymore.
My eyes widened in surprise as I listened carefully for the sound of my heart. Nothing. My chest was an empty cavity without any life. Wait a second... if I don't have a heartbeat, shouldn't I be dead?
I sat up and bounced off my bed. Just kidding, it wasn't my bed. Where the hell am I?
I sucked in a breath to let out the biggest scream to call for help before a voice interrupts me from the corner of the room.
"Lea, are you awake? I was hoping you'd be here..."
My head turned to the sound of that voice; That very familiar voice. Before I had a chance to question it, the owner of the voice came into the light and met me with his sparkling green eyes.
"Trevor... What the heck happened?" I mumbled, even though I already knew the answer. My memory slipped again and I was still having those strange dreams. I also ended up in Trevor's bedroom again, which left me even more clueless than before.
"We were at Melissa's house and right after she said goodbye, you warned me that you were blacking out. When you didn't respond for awhile, Melissa got worried, so I told her that you said goodbye and that you moved on," He sighed and ran a hand through his messy hair. "I'm sorry I did that, I just didn't know what else to do. Lying to her was the only thing that came to mind."
"You did the right thing," I whispered and turned around to face him in his giant bedroom mirror. He was looking at my reflection with a sad smile on his face and I didn't like it one bit. Trevor is such a happy guy and that smile seemed so out of place. "It isn't your fault that I pass out at any moment's notice."
