Simon woke up at 6:00 and went into the kitchen. He walked in to discover Liz making them breakfast. "Why are you up so early?" He asked knowing she wasn't going in today.
"Thought I'd make you breakfast, you sleep well?"
"Yeah, you?"
"Great actually. What time did I fall asleep?"
"Early. It was only like seven."
They ate in silence. Something was weird. Simon went up stairs and got ready for work and came down to find Liz had left. Nothing new, she came and went as she pleased and honestly he didn't care. He went into the kitchen, that was another thing about Liz she never left a mess. Like ever. The room was spotless.
He made his way into work and and greeted everyone. They all engaged in the typical morning talk. How was your night? Fine, how was yours? That kind of thing.
Something was different today.
"Where's Hotch?" Reid finally asked.
Rossi motioned to Hotch's office. "Visiting with an old friend. And he's not entirely happy about it."
Hotch's blinds were closed. They heard the muffled sounds of loud voices but not loud enough to be yelling.
"Old friend?" JJ questioned.
"Yeah, Beth is in town."
Everyone exchanged a look. That's why he wasn't in a good mood.
"She just showed up?" Morgan asked.
"Yeah, threw him completely off guard when she was here this morning when he came in." Rossi replied.
"Nobody tell's Liz." Simon said. Everyone looked around knowing why it'd be bad to tell her. They knew the two didn't get along.
"Nobody tells Liz what?" Liz said walking over to them.
"Shit." Simon mumbled under his breath. "Liz I thought you weren't coming in today?"
"I was crazy bored and I feel great, I wanted to come in."
"I'm going to go to my office." Rossi said wanting to avoid what was coming next. Everyone dispersed, also avoiding the situation about to take place.
"So what are we not telling Liz?" Liz asked Simon again.
"That Beth is here." He looked up at Hotch's office.
Liz scoffed then went to her desk. "Why would I care?" The agitation in her voice making it obvious she did.
Simon sat on her desk, "I think you do."
"Well, I don't." She rolled her eyes.
"You weren't supposed to come in today, you know if Hotch sees you here he's going to be ticked."
"I'm a big girl Simon, Aaron will get over it."
"If you say so."
Liz's good mood had faded, she should've stayed home like she was told, she wished she had. She wouldn't have ever known Beth showed up and that would've been fine by her. Now she was agitated and more so that Simon was sitting on her desk.
"Can you move?" She said harshly.
Simon did so, trying not to aggravate her further knowing that at any moment she could explode into a fit of anger. Beth did that to her and Beth knew it, sometimes Simon swore she would purposely try to get under Liz's skin. The very sight of Beth could set Liz off.
Simon was going to regret this, "why don't we go take a walk?" He suggested to Liz.
"I'm fine thanks."
"Liz please, you need to calm down."
"Simon!" She snapped, "I know what you're trying to do, I'm fine, please go do your work or whatever it is you do!"
Simon walked away, knowing better than to speak further. Liz would calm down he knew that.
"Liz?" Reid looked over at her as she started through the stack of cases on her desk.
"What Reid?"
"Do you want me to take a few of those cases for you I'm finished with mine?"
She gave him a questioning look. She knew he was trying to help and so she changed her tone.
"That'd be great Reid thank you." She managed a smile and handed him a stack of the cases. Then she turned back to her work.
She heard a door open and looked up to see it was Aaron's. Beth walked out looking smug, she made eye contact with Liz and sent a twinkling wave along with a smirk. Liz didn't do anything but glare at her, but Liz's blood was boiling.
She watched Beth leave the room before getting up and marching up to Aaron's office. He looked up at the fact that someone had walked in.
"Liz what are you doing here?"
"I decided to come in." She crossed her arms and stared at him.
"You look like you have something to say." He said.
"I do." She walked over and closed the door, loud enough to make it known to everyone she was mad.
"Out with it." He pushed.
She rolled her eyes and then stared at him again. "What the hell was that about?" It came out surprisingly calm.
"She came in unexpected, she wanted to know if I wanted to have dinner to catch up."
"That's it?"
"Yeah."
"It looked like more to me, she looked like she won the damn lottery when she walked out of here."
"Maybe in her mind she did."
"And to you?"
"Liz it was nothing, she just stopped in to say hello, don't let her get to you."
"You know that doesn't work, she's the only person to get under my skin!" Her voice raised slightly. Aaron sighed not wanting to do this right now. To be honest, Liz tended to overreact when it came to Beth. "You also didn't answer my question."
"All I got was a boring night with someone I don't want to talk to. Are you satisfied?" He said answering her question.
Liz rolled her eyes. He wasn't lying. She was just frustrated. "Liz?"
"What?"
"What's the matter?"
"Nothing Aaron, I just don't like her." Liz turned and walked out of the room. Then kept walking out of the bullpen. Aaron followed her all the way down to the parking lot.
Rossi stood in his office with a perfect view of the two of them.
Liz kept walking. "Liz?" Aaron called after her. She ignored him. "Liz?"
Ignored.
"Elizabeth?!" He finally shouted.
She turned around. "What?" She crossed her arms.
"What the hell is the matter with you?" Aaron was now frustrated.
"Nothing." She insisted.
"Seems like something to me!"
Liz again rolled her eyes and scoffed. "I just don't like her. Okay Aaron, I don't like her, simple as that. So forgive me for being upset that she just shows up back into your life."
Aaron studied her for a minute. "You're jealous."
"What?"
"Don't play dumb, I see the jealousy in your eyes Liz."
"Stop profiling me!" She retaliated. He was right though she was jealous.
"I'm not profiling you, I'm just stating a fact."
"What would it matter to you if I was jealous anyway, you don't care, dinner to catch up will turn into dates and sleepovers and the next thing you know she'll be basically living with you and what happens then, I stop coming over on weekends, stop spending time with you and Jack and we go back to how it was when you dated her before!!" Liz sighed after she said it.
Aaron just looked at her.
"That's not going to happen." He reassured.
"Yeah, sure."
"Liz, that's not going to happen."
"You sound so sure, I almost believe you." She leaned against the SUV.
"Liz it's not going to happen, because I don't want her!" He nearly shouted it. He walked over to her and before he could think about what he was doing he pressed his lips to hers. She found herself pinned between the car and Aaron. He cupped her face in his hands and pulled away. "I don't want her Elizabeth. Do you believe me now?"
She smiled, her face a shade of pink. "Yeah," she breathed. "I believe you now." He leaned in and kissed her again. Deeper, more passionately.By now the entire team was gathered in Rossi's office watching them in the parking lot.
"That a boy, Aaron." Rossi commented.
"Well, it's about damn time." Morgan laughed.
"Finally." Simon whispered.
"I thought they were never going to tell eachother," JJ added. "It's been how long they've been hiding it?" She laughed.
"Almost seven years." Rossi answered. After a minute of silence he spoke again. "Alright, enough, back to work. Let them alone." He shooed everyone out. Simon stayed behind.
"Honestly Dave, I thought it was never going to happen." He said.
Rossi laughed. "Let's just be grateful it did, now we don't have to hear about it." They both chuckled then Simon left. Everyone went about their day.
Aaron and Liz walked back up to the BAU together. They walked in as if nothing happened and the team didn't question it until Hotch went back in his office and Liz sat at her desk in the bullpen.
JJ walked over and sat on Liz's desk. "What just happened?" She asked.
"To tell you the truth JJ I have no idea, but it was fucking great." Liz smiled uncontrollably .
"You get it girl." JJ said before walking away. Liz laughed and tried to focus on the work in front of her. Her mind, however was still trying to process the events of the day.
Aaron sat in his office thinking about what had just happened. Would she still come over for dinner tonight? What would happen now? His mind raced with questions, he kept his focus on his work figuring he'd know the answers later.~~~~~~
