Never In A Million Years

Chapter Four

James' POV

The next morining as I enter the great hall with Sirius and we spot Remus and Peter sitting with Marlene Dorcas Alice and a very grumpy looking Lily.

Sirius and I waltz over to where they are and I sit in between Lily and Peter while Sirius sits between Marlene and Alice.

"Hello ladies, Remus, Peter." Sirius says grining.

Marlene laughs while Lily rolls her eyes and glares at her food. "What's the matter Lilykins?" I ask peering over at her.

She stabs the eggs on her plate and glares at me. "Oh come on Lily flower! You've got the coolest guys in school as your friends now!"

She slams her fork on the table. "I am not your friend Potter! The only guy in your stupid little group that I am friends with is Remus. You and Black and Pettigrew are never going to be anywhere close to being my friends!" She says seething a bit and I am a bit shocked, but also not. It is very rare for any of our conversations to not end in an argument.

Lily stands up suddenly with a peice of toast on her plate and storms out of the entrence hall.

"James what did you do?" Dorcas asks suddenly as everyone else notices her absence.

I put my hands up in surrender. "Nothing honest!"

Alice rolls her eyes playfully. "Yeah sure. I heard all the converstaion. Lily just thinks her love for you is hatred."

Everyone else laughs as it takes me a couple seconds to register what she just said. "Wait what?" I ask which only causes them to laugh harder.

Remus looks at his watch after he wipes the tears from his eyes. "Herbology starts in ten minuets we better hurry." He says standing up quickly.

Sirius and Peter both shove one more bite into their mouths as we all stand up ready to head outside.

As we reach Green House number three, the bell rings and we all duck inside.

Sirius and I go to one table as Remus and Peter go to the one across from ours.

TIME SKIP TO BEFORE LUNCH

I'm laughing with with the guys as we walk to lunch from potions the girls a bit behind us.

Suddenly I don't hear them anymore and my head whips around. "Hey guys where are the girls?" I ask not seeing them.

"Dunno, probably forgot something in sluggy's room." Sirius says shrugging.

I nod "yeah your probably right."

We eneter the great hall and sit down at the gryffindor table.

About twenty minuets later the girls still haven't arrived.

"Im getting a bit nervous." Remus says.

"Same they should have been here at least fifteen minuets ago." Sirus adds.

I nod "I'm gonna go look for them." I say as I stand up, the others following.

We run out of the Great Hall and down the stairs to the dungeons.

As we get closer to the last steps I can hear muffled shouting.

I glace at the guys and take off running towards the noise. I pull out my wand and a turn a corner to see the girls and a bunch a slytherins dueling.

"HEY!" I shout, "Get AWAY from them!"

I give the slytherin's a once over and see who they are.

Bellatrix, Snevillus, Malfoy, a 7th year, Crabbe, Goyle, Avery, Nott, and Mulciber.

"Now now now, this doesn't seem like a fair fight at all!" I say grinnig while everyone stops. "You guys should have at least ten if your fighting these girls. Surley you must know, even if you're all a bit thick, that these four can easily put you in the hospital wing." I pause as I hear Dorcas snicker. I grin at them.

"And since they are now getting aid from us marauders, you might just give up now." I say smirking as the others step out from around the corner.

The Slytherins, or Death Eaters, all raise their wands again and shout jinx after jinx at us, while we block and counter jinx them.

Eventually, six of them are laying on the ground, while Nott is cowering in the corner.

I grin at the others. "Well that was fun but I don't fancy being late to transfiguration."

I turn around and start to head to class. "James?" I turn back around as the others pass me, well besides Lily.

I smile down at her, "Yeah?"

"Um, thanks. Maybe I was wrong, maybe someday we could be friends." And at that she ducks her head and dashes up the the stairs leaving with a goofy smile on my face.

lets just say I got a detention for being late that day.
