Jason's POV

As my feet landed the flooring of her balcony, I cursed myself for making so much noise. Before any of the neighbors noticed, I quickly made my way towards the door to her room.

She was getting ready for bed, it was evident through what she was wearing: a tank top and the tiniest shorts I've ever seen. Her long hair flowed freely down her back and shined under the moonlight. I had a sudden urge to run my hands through her hair, enveloping my fingers in their softness.

It was weird, this was not the first time I had seen Rachel like this, but it was the first time I noticed she was.. Beautiful.

I snapped out of those unusual thoughts and approached her.

"Miss me?"

From the look on her face, she wasn't surprised to see me here. With a long stride towards me, she said "And what made you think that?"

"Because you love me. " I replied, with a huge smirk on my face.

My witty response made her let out a huge roar of laughter. "OH YOU WISH!"

I let out a hearty chuckle and said "A guy can dream, can't he?"

"Who am I to shatter your dreams then?" She smiled sheepishly, " I heard you and Zack decided to act like decent human beings with each other."

"Actually, it was his idea. He was the one who took the first step." I said, with a little regret in my voice and heart. Hey I may be a jerk, but I ain't a liar. As much as I hated it, Rachel should know that Zack was behind the whole thing.

Surprised, she said "Really?"

"Really. "

"Wow.. I never knew he'd actually agree to put up with YOU for ME."

"Guess he likes you a lot then."

"Yeah.. He does.." she said, dreamily.

I decided to change the topic. "So, Zack got the opportunity to make it up to you, now it's my turn. Grab your shoes tuts, we're sneaking out. "

Rachel shrieked loudly, "SNEAKING OUT? ARE YOU CRAZY?! We have school tomorrow!"

Rachel was a party girl, but that was only on the weekends. From Monday to Friday, she was the hottest nerd our school has ever seen. Hmmm, guess beauty did come with brains.

"Oh come on Rach! Just one night, please?" I gave her my puppy dog eyes, hoping they would be effective.

With a sigh of defeat, she said "Fine! But just let me change into something else first? I'm barely dressed!"

Looking down at my own pair of boxers and undershirt, I told her that she needn't be so conscious.

"Why not? Where are we going? Jason..?"

And with a secretive smile, I pulled her outside to the balcony, with me.

Rachel's POV

We had been driving since I don't know when, and Jason hadn't given me the slightest clue as to where we were going.

"How much longer?"

"Can you stop with the questions already?"

"Not until you tell me where we're going!"

With a small smile he said, "You'll know once we get there. "

NOW I WAS ANNOYED. "But Jason my butt hurts! ALOT!"

"I know you really want me to massage it for you, but I'm really occupied right now."

"UGH YOU'RE SO FULL OF YOURSELF!!"

He let out a laugh and smirked. "I know you want me, you know I want ya."

I rolled my eyes and decided not to continue this pointless argument. I refrained myself from smacking the back of his head while he was driving, I really didn't want to die so young.

I had just fallen asleep when Jason told me we had arrived at our destination.

"Do you remember when we were little, you told me you wanted to fall asleep under the stars and wake up and watch the sun rise?"

Not sure where this was going, I replied confusedly, "Um yeah.."

"Weeeell, we're here to make your dream come true."

***

I was so tired! I could barely keep my eyes open. As I grabbed my coffee from the kitchen counter, I replayed last night in my mind.

Jason had taken me to a secluded spot in the hills. The area was full of lush greenery. There were bushes of colorful flowers, and we could hear the animals chirping in the night. The atmosphere smelled of a mixture of different aromas, like the smell of flowers and dew. The sky was pitch black ,and was decorated with stars. They were nothing compared to the moon though. It illuminated the night sky, like a beacon of light in a world full of darkness.

Jason had told me that he had been driving the whole day and came across this place randomly. Upon looking at it, he knew instantly that I would love it.

A red and white checkered sheet laid on the grass, with a soft cotton blanket neatly folded in the corner. Jason had taken out a brown paper bag from his car, and it was filled with two burgers from our favorite diner in town.

"So.. What do you think?"

Truthfully, I was amazed. Never knew Jason would do something like this for a girl, let alone his best friend. At least the new Jason wouldn't. But, I could see a part of the old Jason waking up, again. Jason had changed two years ago. Memories flashed before my eyes as I recalled that summer at the beach house. I shook my head and brushed away the incident.

"I think.. You're the best friend a girl could get." I told him with a genuine smile. And it was true, Jason had been by my side through all the ups and downs in my life and I couldn't imagine life without him.

We spent the night just sitting there talking about everything. It had felt.. nice. We were so busy with everything these days that we couldn't have our alone time. Him, training for the upcoming soccer tournament and me with Zack, and the Winter Fest dance next week. I was the head of the committee organizing the whole event, so I was usually exhausted when I got back home from school. I had to arrange the sponsors and often, I was required to stay back after school to hold meetings with the committee. All in all, it was HARD.

Soon enough, we fell asleep. I woke up to the sound of birds chirping and noticed the sun was about to rise. Jason had his arm wrapped around me my head was resting on his shoulder. We were cuddled up inside the blanket and he looked adorable with his tousled hair. I gently woke him up and then we watched the sun rise together.

The sky was a mixture of different colours. The sun a bright orange ball among a kaleidoscope of colours. In short, the sight before us was breath taking. I had looked into Jason's eyes and didn't quite notice that we were leaning towards each other. But, whatever connection we felt at that moment was ruined by the sound of his phone ringing.

Turns out, it was his alarm, telling him to get up and get ready for school. We got up and made our way towards his car. He speeded most of the way home, we really didn't want to get late. Eventually, we had reached school just on time.

I slapped my forehead at the stupidity of my thoughts. Surely, that connection I felt was due to my lack of sleep. I'm pretty sure I was hallucinating.

If yes, then why did my heart say I wasn't?
