I felt his gentle warm grasp on my wrist as he carefully pulled me into a standing position "It ran off for now... but it could come back with friends, and possibly those who control it"
"There are people who can control those things??"
Once we got back to the road side he answered "Yea, they are called Night walkers, or the children of the night. You usually don't want to go near them, fear them and stay away" I gasped at the sudden realization.
"Those are the followers of the dark one, right?"
He laughed softly "Correct, for someone who had such a provincial view on the land you know more than I thought"
"I did some reading..." I regarded him with a sense of weariness, he may have saved me but what did I really know about him? After James I would be surprised if I could trust the earth to stay underneath my feet or the sky to stay above my head. But then again, I wasn't going to let James have that control over me.
"Well, I'll tell you a little about our world, the real world." He grinned, as if all the fighting we had earlier had never even happened. "You, Lilja, were born in the town of Rosewood and have lived there your whole life. Your school supplies you with basic knowledge of your towns history, governing system, you learn about Math and English. But you don't learn your worlds history. Rosewood is the only town in our world that has been made for mainly humans, with the basic exception of the fire mages in your police force. No one understands why but Rosewood is, not magical. There is so much of the world you don't know, you see." He grins "Keep an open mind, I'll only tell you a bit about it because our mystical world is one you have to experience yourself." I could feel the warmth of his hand radiating into mine as I realized he actually cared about making sure I was safe. "There are people who can fly and swim in the sky, there are ferocious beasts beyond your imagination, intelligent wolves that come to your chest and speak with you in your mind. There are jellyfish the size of a good sized tree, fish that glow like the stars in the sky, and like I said there are mermaids and the fae. There are also werewolves and vampires, mages, elementals..." he smiled softly, reminiscing about a world I've never seen. "There is so much you don't know about Lilja"
A while later and I could feel my feet hurting and I could see odd lights reflecting on the night sky further ahead. Greens and purples and blues danced along the sky as the stars shined clearly with their simplistic beauty, making me realize just how vast the universe truly was, I being just a small piece of such a bigger picture that I hadn't even realized was there.
"Just a little longer and we will be in Astrea. It's a sea town."
I suddenly stopped, I hadn't ever even thought about it... I had never seen the ocean. Other than pictures in books, I could feel the child like giddiness I hadn't felt in a long time, like electricity stirring in my chest as a foolish excited smile broke onto my face.
"That's right, you've never seen the sea" he grinned "Then you will die when you see Astrea"
He was right, when we finally reached Astrea I was greeted with rivers flowing here and there throughout the city, blue clear glowing water with lights changing colors under it, fish of all colors shapes sizes, some small and golden, others large and neon, each beautiful in their own way. We walked further in and I could hear laughing and singing, instruments floating on the air weaving into beautiful intricate songs as people enjoyed the cool end-of-summer breeze as autumn started to take its hold in the world. The warm smell of food drifts through the air.
"Lets get to my friends house and we can rest there, then you can see the ocean tomorrow."
We turned a couple corners before arriving at a large building and he started up to the top, once we got to maybe the 30th floor he went to the lone door in the hallway and knocked. As the door opened a cool pine smell poured out and what I saw surprised me. There was a tall guy, about 6ft, with shaggy black hair that shone oddly purple in the ever changing light coming from the room. He had a young bucks antlers and the dark ears of a buck too. There were faded spots on his tan face. Looking at him closer I felt a faint sense of danger and darkness exuding from him, but he looked at me with a warm smile.
"What are you two doing standing out there?! Get in here!" he pulled us in and quickly locked the door. "Who's the girl?"
"Oh, I am Lilja Awendela" I thought I saw him tense at my name but it happened so quickly I could've just imagined it.
"uh nice to meet you, lilja... I am Cian M'Kannon" he started running his hand through the back of his hair, unsure what to do. "Well uh welcome to Ciudad de la resplandeciente mar" he winks at me as I look lost
"He said the city of the glowing sea basically" Blaike rolled his eyes "He just shows off with his language skills sometimes"
Once settled in we ate sandwiches and drank apple juice before I finally pulled Blaike aside "Ok I will have it set now that I do not completely trust you, and your friend there literally exudes darkness and danger" he looked at me with a serious face before sighing.
"Well, It isn't a surprise you can sense that... He's a Night Walker."
I just about choked on my apple juice like that graceful ballerina I am, and struggled to catch my breath. Had Blaike just brought me to the very thing he told me to fear?
