[ ten ] separate ways

Luke and Lexie had probably been the first to leave the party that night. Since the boys had each taken separate cars, in the event that they would all succeed in convincing their target to leave with them, Luke was able to give Baby Bitch a ride home without a problem. She sat in the front passenger seat, rubbing her tired eyes as a yawn escaped her lips. By this time, she was normally in bed ready to fall asleep.

He smiled, though more to himself, but when she shot him a confused look, he said, "Its only midnight. Pull yourself together, freshie."

The freshman student and newest member of The Bitches smiled back. "This is my first real party that wasn't hosted by anyone in my family. Give me a break, Luke." When she was in middle school, she wasn't very popular to begin with. And whenever she was invited to a party, it normally ended by ten and there were always parents who were volunteering as chaperons. Now Lexie knew she would need to get used to attending parties because she knew The Bitches attended a party nearly every weekend.

On their way to her house, she gave him directions in between the conversation they were having. It had turned out they were both into the same kind of music, and liked a lot of the same things. Both of them had instantly clicked. But Lexie still felt a bit shy and hesitant around Luke Hemmings because he was a senior and she was only a freshman.

He parked on the curb in front of her house and looked at it with confusion. "Are you a scholarship student?" He guessed.

"Why does everyone assume that?" She asked, turning in her seat and looking him right in the eyes.

Luke gave a shrug of his shoulders, pointing out what had given him his conclusion. "Your house is small, and in a middle class neighborhood. I highly suggest you not tell anyone about this because The Bitches will kick you out of their clique, and the rest of the school will reject you. People at Hawethorne are very judgemental." He explained to her. And he knew for a fact that scholarship students were always seen as less than the rest.

"Are you judgemental, Luke?" Lexie raised an eyebrow at him.

He quickly shook his head. "Not me. But the rest of them are. Especially The Bitches, Rose and Taty are the worst. I've seen them play mean jokes on scholarship kids."

He didn't have to tell her, she had personally seen Rose and Taty crack jokes about a third year student named Betty.

"Well, I'm not at Hawethorne on scholarship." She admitted to him with a sigh. Turning to look at her house a bit sadly, she added, "When my parents were married, we used to live in a really big house. Then my dad left us for some other woman so we moved out. He still pays my tuition and buys me things all the time, but its not the same anymore."

"Oh." Luke said. He didn't know how to respond to her words.

"If you don't want to be friends because you think I'm a scholarship student-"

He quickly cut her off. "I still want to be friends."

The smile returned to her lips and she admitted with a sigh, "That's a relief. You're one of my first real friends at Hawethorne. I know everyone else will just pretend to care about me because I've been chosen by the Bitches."

"I liked you before that." Luke assured her with a smile.

Lexie reached for the handle on the passenger side door, but Luke beat her to it. He reached over her slender frame, his face just inches from hers, as he grabbed the door handle and pushed it open. "I was gonna get out of the car and get the door for you like a gentleman, but I think friends don't do that sort of thing. So this is all you're getting." He chuckled, pulling back. He glanced at her face to see that she was blushing.
