Shanaya Singhania Abhi has gone back to avoiding me. From his practised rude attitude at the second challenge it's kinda obvious. I haven't told Sunaina or Shruthi about. It feels to private to tell them- like its a secret I should keep till the grave or something. I stared at me French manicured nails. I am so confused. My feelings for Abhi have changed over the course of the year and I can't understand them....
Abhimanyu Singh. Rohan and I sat at my family's dinner table eating. " Rohan son. I can call you that right?" My aunt Gita said, slyly. Knowing all about my Aunt's tricks Rohan replied " Of course Aunty" . " Rohan I work for your father's company. " My uncle said from across the table. " I'm so sorry Sir" Rohan said gravely. I shot him a look. " Why? I get a good wage from him" my uncle said to him. "Uncle he's just joking!" I said quickly. He burst into laughter. " Rohan beta I was looking at the photos of you in your father's magazine. In real life you're much more charming and handsome" my aunt crooned. " Gita save the butter for the paratas" Dadi said. "Butter is expensive mother-in-law. Here we have run off our words" My aunt replied. "Dadi- you know you're grandson isn't normal. Did he fall down in his childhood?" Rohan said, smirking. " Hey, be quiet and eat your dhal!" I said, grinning at him. "Abhimanyu- don't talk to your guests like that! You know you're a waste of time, money and space!" Aunt Gita said, her nostrils flared. "Aunty Abhi is a blue-chip investment. He'll leave you all as millionaires" Rohan said out of the blue. My heart filled with gratitude for my best friend, but it was short lived as Rohan quickly added " Abhi pass me the achaar". After the dinner I lead Rohan outside the house, eager to thank him. " I liked what you said to my aunt earlier. Felt like I had someone on my side for once. I didn't know Mr Nanda's delinquent son had this talent too" I said all at once. " Slap and compliment in one? Is this how they say thank you in your village?" Rohan said, smirking. I sighed, rolling my eyes " Okay fine. Thank you " I stated. Rohan looked at me oddly for a moment. " Why do you hide your feelings ?" Rohan asked. I coughed. " Are you a girl?" I said. Rohan scratched the back of his head. " I thought I'd try it on you. No one listens to me at home" he said, a wave of sadness crossed his face. " Basically the same story. If we ever need help, we've got each other." I said. "See you" he said. As Rohan was turning around I heard my uncle yell " Abhi! You're Dadi is sick quick call the ambulance!!" . I felt sick. Rohan and I raced to the phone called and ambulance which arrived in a few minutes. I hopped into Rohan's car and drove behind the ambulance . As soon as we reached a,balance I rushed to help pull Dadi's stretcher when - " What are you doing !!!" Aunt Gita yelled. " I'm helping Dadi!" I whisper- yelled at her. " We'll handle your Dadi! Whichever house you come into you cause death and misery!! Get lost!!" She yelled. My world was spinning. I turned around and ran out of the hospital. I couldn't see where I was going. I stopped out of breath when I knocked into Rohan. " Abhi?" He said softly. He gave me a hug. I relaxed, it was nice to know that Rohan still had my back. As I pulled away Rohan said " Are you okay or should I hug you again?" . I sighed . " I'm fine".
** the next day**
" She'll be critical for the next 48 hours" Doctor Sharma stated. " Thanks doctor" I said. I turned around to see Shanaya waving at me. I mustered a smile and waved back. She walked over to Dadi's ward. " Abhi I know you're mad at me. I mean, you don't even look at me! I don't know what I've done but-" she began. " Main tumhari dukh bhari kahani baadmein sunoo? Dadi's not well ( A/N translation- can I listen to your sad story later? )" I stated. " I know. Issiliye main yaha aayi hoon ( A/N translation - that's why I'm here). Are you okay?" She said. I nodded, " Yeah I'm okay" I stared her for a moment. " Are you okay?" I asked tentatively . She looked at me , puzzled. " Ha, kyun? ( translation- yeah why?)" . " What kind of clothes are you wearing!" I exclaimed. Shanaya looked down at her green dress and coat. The dress ended just before her knees and I had to admit, she looked gorgeous. " Sorry I don't have hospital type clothes. But don't worry I'm going shopping today" she said quickly. I cocked my head up. " I wanna come here everyday. Happy Bir-" she said handing me the flowers in her hands. Shanaya blushed, realising her mistake. " Oh sorry" she mumbled. She walked down the steps and smiled at my confused expression. As she walked away Rohan approached her, pulling her into a hug. She looked my way, but I couldn't bare to look her in the eye. She's still my best friend's girlfriend.
Rohan Nanda My phone rang. When I checked the number I saw it was my dad's . Reluctantly I picked it up . "hey dad" I said. " Rohan could you please go over to the Nanda library and meet with the mansger?" Dad said . " Yeah sure" I mumbled ending the call. Shanaya looked at me for an answer. " Tell Abhi I had to go. Dad wants me to do something for him." I said to her. She smiled at me, then nodded. I felt sick- I still hadn't fulfilled my promise to Sunaina bout telling Shanaya everything about us before breaking up with her. Slowly I walked away. I didn't want to leave Abhi by himself. I realised that he wasn't alone- he had Shanaya with him. He'll be alright.
