Abhimanyu Singh🔱
Finally the day had come. I took a deep breath as the crowd cheered around me. Every competitor in the Student of the Year competition had worked so hard in their training, and now we're all finally here. I glance up at the stalls nervously and I find Shanaya staring down at me. She gives me a faint smile, and I smile back, not caring that thousands of people can see us. I don't care what people say anymore, all I know is that I love her. The college's coach stares at us, his starting gun raised. I pull my goggles over my eyes and poise in position. " Ready!" He shouts. " Steady" I bend my knees. " GO!" he yells. My head hits the water.
Rohan Nanda✌🏾️
The water is cold when we enter but I push through it. I swim as fast as I can, pulling the water behind me. My heart freezes as I hit into the water boy, losing some ground. I mentally curse myself as I hear the crowd gasp and continue forwards, more determined than ever. As I raise my head out of the water for a gasp of air, I hear shouts at the end of the pool. Shruthi had already finished. I swim past Abhimanyu, trying to hold back the satisfaction of doing so. Jeet hauls himself out of the water and runs over to the bikes. What seems like forever, I pull out of he water, Abhimanyu right after me.
Shanaya Singhania❤️
The boys have moved from the swimming arena and I've lost all sight of them. I've never been more confused than now- I want Abhi to win because I know how much it means to him but I also want Rohan to win because he's been there for me in all my hard times. I can't choose.
Rohan Nanda✌🏾️
I watch as Jeet pushes Shruthi over and she, along with her bike, fall into the grass below. She feebly throws a handful of grass at Jeet who speeds ahead. I hold back a laugh as I remember that neither Jeet, nor Shruthi are my friends anymore. Abhimanyu speeds ahead of me and I feel my heart drown a little. He doesn't care that we're competing so vigorously together, he just wants to win. Around the second bend, I pick up my pace and get into first, leaving Jeet behind. For the first time today I can see Abhimnayu's victory slipping away from me. It's reassuring.
Sunaina Chandi🌸
I watch in amazement as Rohan enters the stadium, throws his bike down and starts running on the track. I look over at Shanaya, who's eyes are transfixed on not Rohan, but Abhi,as he runs being Rohan, closing the small lead in a few minutes. It's hard to take my eyes away from them.
Rohan Nanda✌🏾️
Abhimanyu speeds up behind me, and takes over. I'm already tired trying to keep up with him and I don't think I can keep up with him now. He's taller than me, his legs are longer and that's makes him at least twice as fast as I could ever be. We're up to the final leg of the race and my heart thumps in my chest. I take a deep breath and now, we're leg for leg, arm for arm, chest for chest. Just before he's going to cross the line, his leg falters and he stumbles. I'm dumbfounded at first and I can't seem to comprehend what just happened. Suddenly, my chest breaks through the ribbon. I couldn't believe it. I'd won. I'd won the Student Of The Year competition. Cheers erupt from the crowd and I can't help but smile. Thousands of students run down the stalls and crowd around me, but Sunaina reaches me first. She grins at me, throwing her arms around my neck. " You did it!" She yells. I grin at her, and for a moment, no one else is there but us. I reach down and kiss her, oblivious to the people staring at us. When we break away I find my mother cheering for me from the stalls, my father wearing a look of dismay. But through all the happiness, I know deep down, I didn't win because of me. I won because of him. I won because of Abhimanyu Singh.
