New School, Old Friends

Naruto POV

I stood at my front door ready to leave for school. But I couldn't at the moment because some people had to go and wake up late. Tapping my foot impatiently, I lifted my wrist to look at the priceless, gold watch that my father once gave to me.

7:15.

Deciding to call them one last time before I leave, I stood at the bottom stair and screamed up at them, "SASUKE!!!!! KYUUBI!!!!! STOP LOOKING IN THE MIRROR AND GET DOWN HERE BEFORE I LEAVE!!!!!!!!!" Apparently they got the message because the next thing I heard were the insanely large footsteps, running down the wooden stairs.

Sighing, I looked to see if Kyuubi was wearing the outfit that I recommended for the first day of school. Sure enough, he was wearing the white button down shirt and the midnight blue pants that I had selected the day before.

Yep. That's right. We're starting a new school today. And Kyuubi will never be bullied again as long as I'm still standing.

Call me overprotective, but wouldn't you be after seeing your parents get killed?

Yeah. Thought so.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see Sasuke look me up and down before turning away. Shrugging it off as nothing, I proceeded to drag both of them out the door.

On the walk to school, we ran into one of my favorite friends from our old school.

Gaara Sabuku.

I took a moment to study his appearance.

Short red hair, a 'love' tattoo in red on the left side of his forehead, dark eyeliner outlining his bright green eyes, a plaid vest in place over a neon yellow long sleeved shirt, black pants, and to top it all off, a dark green book bag.

Yeah. He's a nerd. But that's what I love about him.

He came out of nowhere and got really close to me. Feeling his hot breath tickling my ear, he asked quietly, "Do you mind if I walk with you?"

I blushed a little and replied, "I don't care."

He looked behind me and smirked at Sasuke, probably thinking that I couldn't see him. Sasuke glared in response.

Sighing loudly, I pushed Gaara away from me and said, "Let's go or we'll be late."

I could have sworn I saw Sasuke smirk at Gaara. Wonder what's going on between them.

Maybe . . .

No, that can't be it.

It just can't be.
