Emma and Kumajiro were making their way out of the woods with her Dad leading the way back to the house. Canada had brought Emma out in the woods to show her how to get maple sap from a tree to make syrup for pancakes. "It takes a while for the syrup to come out," Canada explained. "So we'll have to be a bit patient, okay?"
"Okay Pa," the 7-year old nodded.
The two Canadians, and the polar bear, waited for the sap to go into the bucket. They sat on a fallen log and waited patiently for the sap to fill the bucket, passing the time by counting the snowflakes that were falling to the ground. When the bucket was finally full, Canada took it and carried it back to the house with Emma trotting right behind her Dad.
"You excited for pancakes Kumajiro?" Emma asked the polar bear.
"Who are you?" Kumajiro asked.
Emma sighed in defeat. "I'm Emma," she answered. Still, Emma smiled at the polar bear and petted the top of his head. "Maybe you'll remember me one day."
The Canadians made their way home and towards the kitchen. Emma sat at the counter as she watched her Dad turn the sap into syrup. It was a long and steady process that made Emma a bit antsy before it was finally ready to put on pancakes that had been ready and waiting for them.
As they ate, syrup ran down her chin a bit. Canada noticed this and grabbed a napkin and wiped the syrup from her chin. "Careful maple leaf," Canada told her after he had wiped the sticky substance from her chin. "You'll get yourself dirty if you aren't careful, eh?"
"Okay Pa," Emma nodded before taking a smaller bite from her stack of pancakes.
Later that day, Emma walked outside with Kumajiro into the snow in her big winter gear. "Okay Kumajiro, I need you to hold still, okay?"
The polar bear looked at Emma in confusion and then sat down right in front of Emma as she started working on her snow sculpture. She put the mound right next to the polar bear and started molding it into the bear's shape. This took a few minutes before Emma grabbed a few little pebbles buried underneath the snow and placed it on the snowbear's face. She then gave the polar bear a small little smile using a stick.
"There. What do you think Kumajiro?"
Kumajiro got up from his spot next to the snowbear and turned his head to the side. "Who are you?" He asked the snowbear.
Emma chuckled at her pet polar bear and gave him a pat on the head. "You're a good boy Kumajiro."

After a good lunch, Canada took Emma out onto the ice for her daily ice skating lesson. She was nervous about it as she nervously got on the ice with Canada's help. "You ready Emma?" He asked her with a smile.
"I'm actually a bit nervous," Emma admitted.
"Don't worry. I've got you." Canada took a hold of Emma's hand and helped her out onto the ice. Emma's knees started wobbling a bit and started tipping back and forth. Canada quickly steadied her out before helping her out on the ice. "There you go Emma. Now just keep your balance and you'll be all right."
Slowly, but surely, Emma kept her balance and held onto her Dad for support. It was a bit tough but she was getting the hang of it. As they went across the ice, Canada slowly released his hold on Emma and let her try doing it by herself. For a moment, Emma wobbled forward and backward until she finally got her balance. Then she started skating on her own.
"I'm doing it! I'm doing it!" Emma squealed with glee as she skated circles around her Dad. "Pa, I'm doing it!"
"Good job Emma," Canada smiled as he watched his little maple leaf skate around on her own. She was becoming a real expert here. That is, until she fell down and skinned her knee. Tears rolled down her face and Canada rushed over to Emma and picked her up. "It's okay Emma. Let's go get you patched up."
Emma nodded through the tears and then placed her head on his shoulder. "Okay."
Canada carried his little girl back to the house, where he took two bandages and patched her up. Once she was all good, Canada carried her to the living room for a nice quiet puzzle. Kumajiro just sat and watched with a chew-toy in his mouth.
"It's so quiet," Emma noticed a few minutes into the puzzle.
"It sure is," Canada agreed as he put the outer-edge of the puzzle together. "I really like it."
That peace and quiet was soon disturbed by America, who knocked down the front door. "Bro! I need you for something!" America shouted, scaring both the Canadians.
"For goodness sake America, can't you knock?!" Canada whisper-shouted at his brother.
"Nope! Listen, could you give me supplies for the war? Britain told me to stop bugging him."
Canada sighed, knowing America wouldn't leave without him saying yes so he agreed and gave him a week's supply of supplies. "There, that should do it."
"Thanks bro! See you later! Later Emma!" With that, America left without even fixing the door.
As Canada fixed it himself, Emma got up to help her Dad. "Why is Uncle America so weird?" She questioned.
"No one really knows sweetie. No one really knows."

Following dinner and a bath, Emma was tucked into bed with Kumajiro laying at her feet. "You nice and comfy Emma?" Canada asked her as he took her glasses off for her.
Emma nodded. "I'm good Pa."
Canada smiled at her before giving her a kiss on her forehead. "Goodnight maple leaf." He then gave Kumajiro a rub on the head. "Goodnight Kumajiro."
Kumajiro lifted his head up and looked at Canada. "Who are you?" He asked, making Canada sigh.
"I'm Canada."
Emma giggled a bit before laying down in her pillow and falling asleep.
