"Yo Thomas," the driver called to his buddy in the passenger seat, who now had a name, "it's your turn to drive""Dude you've hardly gotten us anywhere, and did you see me unload on that horde? I think I've found my new catchphrase 'Stay dead bitches'" the two bicker about who's going to drive while we made our way towards them.
It was decided that Thomas will drive while I sit in the passenger seat and the other two will get in the truck bed on the back. To be fair, Thomas seamed better company than the alternative option.
"Well," he said as I climbed into the truck cab "I guess you already know that my name is Thomas, my friend over there's Bradley, I don't believe we've been properly introduced." yes, just as I said - definitely better company.
"I'm Euna" I said "and that's my brother Mac" I gestured towards the truck bed behind.
"Mac?" He questioned "that's an odd name, did your parents loose a bet against Apple or what?" I'll admit, this made me laugh a little. "Euna however, is a very... unusual name." He said very matter-of-fact-ly.
We spent the majority of the ride like this, with small talk and odd remarks about the goings on, I couldn't help but wonder what was happening with my brother and the brick wall of a conversationalist, Bradley.
"We should be there soon," said Thomas just as I was about to drift off to sleep again, it was early in the morning my now, around 2 or 3 "just a little further and we'll be at my camp." I was suddenly wide awake at this comment.
"Wait... your camp? As in, you run it?" I asked
"Well, I guess you could say that. I give the orders and people come to me when they have questions. I never really thought of myself as leader, no one else stood up to it though."
"Oh..." Was my only response.
"So," He said after a few minutes of awkward silence, "there are four of us at camp; two guys and two girls, names are Mary and Alex. I suppose you'll like other girls around?" I nodded. The promise of having more girls for company was good I suppose. Even though I had always found myself more comfortable amongst the guys, you can't really talk to them about everything. "We've got spare food and water too. And maybe you'll find a weapon lying around. We haven't checked everything, see. Anything you find goes towards camps supply. But weapons are finders keepers. Unless you don't want it." As he says this I twist the bat around in my hand. It's big enough to do some damage, but I'm not that strong so I'm practically useless with it, and Thomas knows it.
Thomas turns a corner and a large warehouse comes into view. With boarded windows and a chain linked fence it looked safe enough, that is, until you notice the few dozen sick on the outside.
"We've got company." I said as we got closer.
"No one told me about the party," jokes Thomas "I never got an invitation. Oh well, looks like we'll be dropping in to say hi." He parked the truck a good few feet away, only a few of the sick had noticed us. He picked up his shotgun and cocked it then hit the back of the truck cab twice to tell the others this was our stop.
I heard movement from behind and Mac appeared at my window, he opened my door and I climbed out after seeing Thomas do the same. "You ready?" Mac asked me.
I looked over to the other side of the truck to see Bradley spinning his knife in his fingers and taunting a sick that had gotten close.
"Born ready." I replied as I clung onto my bat with both hands.
