The field stretched on for miles, it seemed endless, it was filled with the prettiest of flowers, bright red poppies, sunshine yellow buttercups and the bluest of bluebells. That's funny don't you think? That flowers are named after their colours. I let my head wander as I walked through the field, towards an old-timey cottage. A small boy was playing at the front of the house. I walked up to him and he smiled at me, he reminded me of my brother, Mac, when he was younger. He had the same scruffy brown hair and grey eyes as Mac. He grinned at me when he saw me approaching, he giggled and waved at me - I, of course, waved back with a smile.
But then something changed. I got to about a metre away from him. He wasn't looking at me anymore, rather, right through me.
"Euna!" He cried my name, "Euna please"
"What? What's wrong?" he looked hopeless, scared out of his wits. The sky that once was cloudless and blue turned grey, clouds rolled over the field that was once so beautiful. The only light left was coming from the cottage windows - which was too dim to light up anything outside the cottage.
"Euna, wake up" this time it wasn't his voice, it was Mac's, still coming from the boys mouth. Everything faded to black, I woke with a start to my brother over me, shaking me. Mac's never been one to worry, but the look on his face was so concerning that I sat up straight away.
"What's going on?" Now I was the one that was panicking.
"We have to move, Euna we have to leave now, you don't have time to get changed, get up, get a jacket and your shoes." He turned to go, "Oh, and take this" he handed me his old baseball bat; he used to play when he was in school, now we keep it at the top of the stairs in case someone breaks in. "Hurry up, Euna. We need to get moving!" He called as he ran out of my room and down the stairs. I stopped him as he had his hand on the front door handle.
"Mac, what's going on?" I couldn't stand this, I've never seen him like this and I need answers.
"There was an explosion, sis, at the nuclear plant, the people there.. they got sick.. they started freaking out."
"I knew about the explosion, you had to evacuate some people didn't you?" Mac was an Officer and I remember him telling me about that night "That was like, a month ago though wasn't it?"
"Listen.. the sick ones.. they.. I don't know how to explain it.. they died in the hospital.. but they came back. they're killing people, and the ones they kill.. they come back too." Mac paused, "They... they got Eric" Eric was Mac's colleague, well.. he was more than that, he was likes Mac's best friend, one of the family.
"We should get going" Mac walked out of the door and towards our car, I grabbed my boots and leather jacket from the living room and followed him, slamming the door shut behind me.
"Where are we headed?" I asked as I got into the passenger side.
"To be fair, I don't know sis. Just far away from here"
How far away?
