County Road 141

I Got Hit By A Car

(Operator) "911 what's your emergency?"
"There's a girl. She was in the road. I think I hit her or her dog.With my car. I don't know the dog ran off but she's laying in the road."
(Operator)"Ok honey is she breathing?"
"I don't know let me check."
(Operator)"Ok but try not to move her ok."
"Ok. Ya ya she's breathing."
(Operator)"Ok that's good. Now where are you?"
"Oh I'm a couple of miles down county road 141."
(Operator)"Ok I'm getting the ambulance to you now.I want you to stay on the phone ok?"
"Ok.Wow she's really banged up,but my car isn't that bad."
Lana left her car in the road and turned her hazard lights on so the ambulance would see her. There were no street lights on 141. She sat down by the girl and waited for the EMT's to arrive.
11 minutes later and she could hear the blare of the sirens. She told the 911 operator that she could see them and hung up the phone.
Waiting patiently Lana stood still as they pulled up and exited the ambulance and watched as a sheriffs vehicle pulled in behind.
Lana stood back allowing them to do their job while she gave the deputy her statement.
Jerry one of the EMT's bent down next to the girl and whispered "Jesus Hannah you see this?"
Ya Hannah said."This girl is a mess. No way that girls car did this kind of damage. Put the brace on her Jerry and let's get her loaded."
Jerry slipped the neck brace on gently while Hannah set up the gurney. Ready Hannah asked? "Ya on three. One,two,three." They lifted her up on to the gurney and wheeled her to the back of the ambulance.
Jenna felt herself being lifted,opened the one eye that wasn't swollen shut and looked into the face of Hannah Jeffries and whimpered.
Hannah looked down and said "shh it's ok we're taking you to the hospital your safe."
"No" Jenna said and fell unconscious after saying one word. "Wolf."
"Shit" Hannah exclaimed and jerked back. They loaded her Up and Hannah jumped into the drivers seat.
Jerry she said.
"Call Ren NOW!"
    Sheriff Darren Holmes woke to the sound of children singing I can be your friend and scowled. He heard the chuckle from down the hall and yelled. 
"Damnit Bailey leave my phone alone will ya."
Muttering to himself he answered with a curt "someone better be dead."
  "Ren it's Jerry you need to come down to the hospital."
A shiver ran down Rens back and he straightened.
"Tell me"Ren said.
"Wolf" was all Jerry said before Ren hung up the phone and jumped out of bed and started getting dressed. He was putting on his shirt when he felt the stare at his back and turned finding Bailey in the doorway.
What is it she asked?
"Never you mind Bailey just go back to bed."
"You're my brother Ren not my father."
"I'm also the sheriff and your guardian,now go on get."
Bailey stomped off and slammed her bedroom door and Ren rushed out to his jeep.
   Ren arrived at the hospital in a little under twenty minutes and walked past the reception desk to the room with all the noise. He looked down at the figure on the bed and stilled.
Dr. Horace Stivers looked up into the eyes of a very angry Sheriff, but it wasn't the sheriff part that worried him. It was the beast lurking in those eyes that made him tread very carefully.
"We aren't equipped for this kind of trauma Sheriff Holmes. We need to send her"
"No" Ren cut him off before he finished the sentence.
"She stays Doc."
The heart monitor went off and a nurse yelled for paddles.
Dr. Stivers turned back to his patient and proceeded to shock her heart.
Darren Holmes looked calmly around the room and in a firm voice ordered them "Save her. If she dies so do you."
