TabbyClaw's POV
Angry murmurs filled the camp as our leader; TawnyStar, tried to calm them down. Our deputy BlazePool had just reported prey going missing and RiverClan scents over the markers. I didn't particularly care as much as the other did about this but I didn't like it either. RiverClan have fish and they don't need our prey. TawnyStar jumped down from the meeting point and approached me.
"TabbyClaw! I guess you know MidnightPaw's mentor has sprained his leg right?" My fur bristled at the mention of the biggest nuisance in our clan but I nodded.
"I need you to take her hunting." She sighed. No apprentices were allowed out of camp without a warrior due to two leg activity. It's stupid! Twolegs are stupid! All they do is sit around in hollow pelts and leave foul smelling stuff everywhere. But never the less I was asked to take MidnightPaw out hunting. This will definitely be fun.
"OK TawnyStar, I'll go fetch her now." I dipped my broad head to her and sniffed out to find MidnightPaw. She was in the apprentice den.
"Hey MidnightPaw! TawnyStar told me to take you hunting." I meowed.
"Can I come too?" Her brother GreyAsh was beside her.
"TawnyStar just told me to bring MidnightPaw and didn't you just go out?" I held back rolling my eyes.
"He can come if he wants! We're only a few days off being warriors! You won't be able to tell us what to do then." MidnightPaw had jumped in front of her brother defensively.
"Oh great shout at me, that's defiantly gonna help. I'm just following orders you spoilt brat!"
"You always walk around the place thinking your so superior and that everyone should listen to you. News flash. You're not the leader, or even the deputy. You only got made a warrior a few moon ago for starclans sake." Her fur was standing on end.
"Still makes me older than you!" I hissed smirking.
"Well I don't care!" She swished her black tail defiantly.
"Can we just go hunting? Or we'll both get hell from TawnyStar!" I tried to reason.
"Fine but you go out before me, I don't want the clan to think we're friends!"
"Does it matter? And we we're friends in the nursery."
"Fine cmon slow snail." She raced ahead and we left the camp into the pine forest.
"I think we should hunt by the ThunderClan boarder." I signalled over with my nose. "All the prey by there is normally out of their holes by this time."
"No we shouldn't..." I looked her in shock. "We could easily scare them over the boarder. There is a patch of open land around their and they'll easily see my black pelt. I think we should go to the RiverClan boarder."
"And whys that mouse brain?" I asked even though she did make sense.
"I just have a feeling the prey with be good there. I might even catch a squirrel!" Her eyes shone.
"Ok but if we bring home no prey, you're telling BlazePool."
"Deal but I'll catch loads of prey." She swished her tail and bounced towards the RiverClan boarder.
"You'll scare off all the prey from here to the the MoonPool if you don't step lighter." I hissed.
"Well I can't smell any prey at the moment so there's nothing to scare off!"
"Do you have to argue with me all the time?!"
"Do you have to question me all the time?!"
I smelt something, RiverClan! They had crossed the boarder. I stuck my thin tail into MidnightPaw's mouth to stop her talking and pounced into a bush.
"What are you doing now mousebrain?!" She hissed.
"Shut up and look!" I whispered and peered out of the bush. It was RiverClan, with our prey! I felt anger surging up inside me but MidnightPaw put her tail in front of me. She was advising me not to jump out on them. And she was right, they could need help.
"See I told you there would be more prey here!" Said a sleek blue furred tom after landing a clumsy kill on a water vole.
"Fine fine, you called it ReedTail." Giggled a white she-cat. She was holding a mouse in her mouth.
"I nearly caught something too! You saw me right MistyHeart?" A grey tom apprentice was with them.
"Yes she did, now let's go back over the boarder. And remember, this prey wandered into our territory, ok RapidPaw?" ReedTail was persuading them! I looked at MidnightPaw and we exchanged a nod and jumped out on the three RiverClan cats.
"H-how long have you been listening to us?" Whimpered MistyHeart.
"Does it matter, we heard everything!" I shouted and she flinched back.
"Explain yourselves!" MidnightPaw added.
"We thought it would be a good idea if we practised hunting here, just incase two legs take the river from us!" RapidPaw squealed and crouched down.
"Get off our land..." I growled and we waited until they left. We walked back to camp.
"So you're gonna tell TawnyStar right?" MidnightPaw standing tall beside me.
"We have to, it's our duty." I answered simply. We ran the rest of the way and went straight to our leaders den.
"TawnyStar?" MidnightPaw called, "we found RiverClan cats stealing prey."
"They said they were practicing for if two legs stole the river." I added tilting my head. Two eyes appeared in the gloom.
"You two are unwounded, was there a fight?" TawnyStar stepped out.
"No, we just have them a warning and stole back our prey." MidnightPaw replied.
"Good, you two did good." TawnyStar beamed. "We won't tell the clan this but I will mention it at the gathering tomorrow. You both are dismissed."MidnightPaw's POV
Maybe TabbyClaw isn't that bad. We showed those RiverClan thieves. My bones were aching but I didn't really want to stop hanging round with TabbyClaw.
"We can still go hunting, seeing we never caught anything." I called to him.
"Ok, I bet I can catch the most prey!" He teased and ran into the forest.
I heard the rustling of pine needles on the forest floor and spotted a squirrel nibbling peacefully on a nut. A SQUIRREL!!! I've never caught one of those. I creeped towards it and pounced. I actually caught it, that'll show TabbyClaw whose the best hunter.
By the end I had my squirrel and a mouse. TabbyClaw had two mice, a vole and a fish from a small pond in our territory.
"I win!" He shouted as he saw my prey.
"But I caught I squirrel, surely that beats you!" I bit back.
"There's no point fighting." He looked hurt, he was being friendly. "We got enough for our clan and that's what counts."
"TabbyClaw I didn't mean it like that, I'm just used to thinking of you as a mousebrain!" I used a playful to be and it brought him back.
"And I'm not used to thinking of you as a friend and not the biggest nuisance in the clan." He chuckled and we went back to camp. Now I was exhausted. I flopped down into my nest in the apprentice den and TabbyClaw went to the Warriors den. Did he miss being an apprentice with me? Did he miss being so close to me in the nursery? These were my final thoughts before a was thrust into a dream.I was on the island, it was pitch black but I could tell. I was about to call out for someone but a cat next to me beat me too it. I knew that voice!
"TabbyClaw?" I whispered.
"huh? Oh starclan it's you." He sighed in relief and a shining cat formed in front of us. Shedding light on the island. I was right!
"I am ThistleStar, the old leader of shadowclan before TawnyStar. And you two have been chosen by starclan, by me, to fulfil a quest." The cat meowed, we were both in awe. "You and six other cats from each clan are to create a new clan. WolfClan. Meet here in two days time. Good luck." ThistleStar started to fade and TabbyClaw and I both blurted out questions that made no sense until we were left in darkness once again.
