The first day of eighth grade came way to quickly. All of the back to school shopping was a dread, and the clothing shopping was even worse. All the clothes i said i wanted my mother argued about. I chose a black dress with lace, and that was all i got that i chose. The rest were all long sleeved thankfully. The night before i put a band aid over my latest cuts. It wasnt a pleasant experience but its something i have to do. Honestly my parents are oblivious to all the things in my life. Whenever i brought my one friend over, my parents acted perfectly normal. But the minute he left, my parents started a rampage on how a girl my age should have a friend thats a girl. I would protest and they would hurt me. And ever since then, i learned to just keep my mouth shut. Like Elsa once said, conceal dont feel.
Finally in the morning, i packed my lunch and backpack and wore my dress with faded dark jeans and hightops the sleeves on the dress had holes by the thumb so of course, thats where i stayed. I walked my brother, Auggie to school and ignored my mom. My dad was the teacher of our history class, lucky for me but thankfully i got out of his class. During homeroom, our teacher announced something.
"Class we have a new student this year! Please introduce, Maya Hart" our teacher Mrs. Delainey said
A short, skinny blonde girl waked out holding a neon backpack. Her hair was styled in a braid and had a vibrant dress. She waved and smiled and introduced herself to the class "Hello! Im Maya Penelope Hart, im 13 years old and i cant wait to meet you all!" She smiled so much i was scared her cheeks would burst.
"Maya you can sit there next to Riley"
The words wrap around my head.I would try to force a smile, but i couldn't. As she sat down she flashed a huge smile and waved to me. I forced a faint smile and waved back. I took out my sharpie and drew. It was all that made me feel better.
"So your names Riley?" She says
"Yeah" i whisper
The neon pink on her nails almost blinded me when the sun shone on them. During the class she tried to start a conversation, but the closest she got was when she asked who the next teacher was, and that was a short conversation because the next class was history.
"Riley?"
My head shot up
"Would you mind showing Maya around? Her schedule is the same as yours. "
Yes i thought but instead i said "no not at all" Maya smiled again and gave me a hug. That girl is just a waking talking bowl of sunshine.
Man she annoyed me.
"Next class is history. Just follow me the teacher is Mr.Matthews. Dont upset him" i say
"What will he do?" She asks
"...you dont want to..." I say but stop he wouldnt do anything to a new student. I dont think anyway
"Oh well can i sit next to you? I need someone to direct me and at lunch if you dont mind."
"Look, im sorry Maya but i just dont think we're going to be friends. No one cares about me because i drive people away. You'll attract more people then me- im dangerous Maya" i stare to see her reaction
"Why are you dangerous?"
"I-im a depressed suicdal 13 year old."
She nods and walks in the class.
