As I rest my head against the window of the truck, I think about what my life could have been if I hadn't left. A loving husband, kids, neighbors, friends... all things I have never had. A tear rolled down my cheek like the rain on the window.
Suck it up Rockie, I order myself. You're a grown girl, you're stronger on your own. You don't need a stupid old mate to make your life better. You have Holly... and nobody else. I frown and dry my tears. I have always been alone, look how good I've turned out!
"We're almost there. Five minutes." Holly said, shaking me out of my thoughts. We haven't talked since I got in the truck. She gives me my space and waits for me to go to her. She knows that when I'm ready to talk, I'll talk. I push any thoughts about my mate to the back of my mind. I don't need to worry right now.
The rain stopped, allowing me to get a clearer look at my surroundings. Outside my rain streaked window was a small, quaint town with ironically big country homes. Two stories high with rock covered fronts and deep red, brown, and blue siding around the back and sides. Elegant stairs led up to elegant porches with beautiful chair swings for every home.
"Home sweet home." Holly said as we pulled up into the last home on the street.
"You're kidding. How did you pay for this?!" I said, amazed.
"Do you like it?"
"How could I not?!" Our house had dark blue siding and a white door. This was my dream home. I reached over and pulled Holly into a bone crushing hug. "Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you!"
"I. Can't. Breathe." Holly gasped. I let go and she sucked in a breath. "I have been saving up tips and extra money. I was thinking maybe we could stay here for a while...?" She said it like a question, waiting for my answer.
"Of course! Lets go check it out!" We jumped out of the truck and up to the front door. Holly pulled a shiny grey key from her purse and unlocked the door. The entry way was the same color of blue as the siding, with a big crystal chandelier hanging overhead. A dark wood table, which matched the floors, was on the left, and a closet to the right. I kicked off my boots and ran down the hall. Even though I'm almost an adult, my actions were the same as you'd expect from a five-year-old.
To the left of the entry hall was the living room. It was empty, except for a 62" TV on the wall. I ran up to it and rested my head and arms on it. "My baby." I said with a sigh. Holly came up behind me, laughing.
"Yes, it came with a TV. We need to get the couch in here before it starts to rain again." We went back to the truck and started unpacking. As I looked around my street, I turn to Holly. "I could definitely get used to this."

My eyes slowly open. I automatically close them again because the sun is shining through my window, straight into my eyes. "Urgh!" I make a mental note to get my curtains put up before tonight. My bed isn't assembled yet, so I'm sleeping on my bare mattress, on the floor of my room. I check my phone for the time. I sure had a good sleep. Its 12:34, meaning that I had eleven hours of sleep.
