Once you've been in a dark room for long periods of time, you lose track of the days. No one in this room has known what day it is, they've even forgotten their own birthdays.
Willis sat in this this room, unbenounced to him, for 2 years. He was the only one left of the original four. The others were taken, but he was never taken. Maybe they had forgotten about him, maybe he could just fade into the walls and somehow disappear. He knew in his heart though that that would never happen.
Today is december 3rd (although Willis didn't know), his birthday. Somewhere in his heart Willis knew this day was different, you can never forget your birthday completely. but his attitude changed when a child was thrown into the room with a bump and a tumble.
He heard whimpering and crying, all of which he's heard for the 2 years he was down there. He felt like comforting the child, although that would be a lie.
The child knew someone was there and backed away from him. He chuckled to himself. "Child," he cooed, " there's no need to be afraid, I won't hurt you...and if I can do anything, I won't let those people hurt you either."
He extended a hand toward the child and it grabbed on. He pulled the child close to himself, and he saw it was a little girl. He held her close as she cried into his filthy, ragged clothes. The girl was eight or nine, with red hair and freckles.
" Tell me, child," he asked," what's your name?"
"A-a-a-dri-ri-ri-anaa-a-a," she chocked out between sobs.
"Adrianna, what a beautiful name!" Willis said lovingly," Don't worry, you'll be safe with me."
He was not going to let anything befall this girl. If anything, if they came to take her he would fight back for her life, even if it cost him his own. Nothing would take this child, he hugged her close, not even the cold of the room.

Carmine awoke with a start when he heard the sirens outside his building. He quickly threw on pants and ran down the hall to the big window at the end. There was an ambulance outside his building with a woman on a stretcher. He opened the window and leaned out of it to get a better look of who it was. He gasped. There on the stretcher was Mrs. Yokovich.
He quickly shut the window and ran outside, the cold stinging his shirtless body.
"What happened," he yelled at an EMT who was holding the door open so they could get the whole stretcher out.
" She fell and broke her hip, about 4 hours ago and no one heard her yelling," said the EMT.
How could he not have heard her, he always walked past her room when he was going to his room.
" There must have been something else to this!" Carmine exclaimed. He looked at the EMT's tag, Sean.
" Kid, there's always something more to everything, but we can never know," Sean said.
Fine words... Carmine thought.
Mrs.Yokovich tilted her head and saw Carmine, she smiled. "You need some meat on those bones, too skiny, unlike men in Russia," she said.
Carmine laughed, he knew she was going to be alright, but he still had his doubts.
He turned back to Sean, " What is exactly wrong with her, she seems fine," he said with a slightly worried tone.
"Kid, this is medical business, you don't need to know!" Sean exclaimed angrily. Sean was glaring him down, but Carmine stared cooly back.
"I need to know," Carmine said with an icy tone of stubborness. Sean rolled his eyes at him.
