"Alex!" I yelled across the parking lot when I saw her get off the bus. She gave me a half smile and walked over to me.
"John." She said gloomily like she does every morning. She threw her sweat shirt in my car.
"Did the step monster take away your car again?" I asked her.
"She's not my step Mom. She is no where near motherly at all. But yes she once again took my car away because she thought I was being unruly." She explained to me. I tried to find a way to change the conversation because once Alex rants there is no way you can get her to stop for the rest of the day.
"Nice skull shirt! Is it new?" I asked her.
"Yeah I got it yesterday. Streets needed someone to go to the mall with." Alex told me.
"I thought you too said you hated the mall?" I asked Alex.
"We do but she was getting a little insecure about all those rude girls who make fun of her clothes because she doesn't have a lot. She just came into some money and she wanted to get some new clothes. She didn't want to go alone, and if she asked Erika she knew she would be there all day." She replied. She was right. Erika is a shop shopaholic. We both walked into school late as usual. We sat down in Chemistry in the back of the class so we don't get called on.
"Alex, John, why are you guys late again?" Asked Mrs. Jenkins the Chem teacher.
"The same reason we are always late Mrs.Jenkins." Alex replied. We both got up because we both saw her pick up a pen. Alex and I were already at her desk before she was done writing the pass. HS e ripped it of the pad and we were off, again, to the office.
"Hi guys!" Said Livia. We both looked at each other and pretended like we didn't hear her. She started walking faster. I finally gave in.
"Hey Livia, didn't see you there. What's up?" I said.
"I was bringing attendance down to the office. What about you guys?" She asked us.
"We are heading there too." Alex said. I was surprised she even replied to her. Alex and Livia got in a really big fight last week.
"Oh cool! Why are you guys going there?" Livia asked. Alex just walked into the office. I could tell that Ale was hoping that her tone of voice would make Livia go away. I guess Livia can't read can't read tones of voices.
"We're late, again." I told her. Then I rushed in after Alex.
"Mr. Jonathan and Miss Alex. Late once again are we?" Said the principal sarcastically. She already knew that we were going to be late. We are late almost every morning.
"Just give us the slip already." Alex said. The principal already knew that we knew that we were going to get a detention if we were late one more time. Alex always had that 'I don't care about anything' attitude towards everything. She just took the slip like she does everyday. Yes, Alex gets detention just about everyday. She stormed out of the room. I was about to take mine when the principal took me aside.
"Look Jonathan, you're a good kid. I know that your late a lot but you usually have a good reason as to being late. You do live a good distance away from the school and You just got your license this summer. I can let you off with a warning, ut if your late again then I'll have to give you a detention." She said.
"Does Alex get a warning too?" I asked her.
"I'm afraid not." he replied.
"Then I will gladly take that slip and see you after school," She looked very confused, "I've been late the same amount of times Alex has. I always come to the office with her for the same reason. I believe that all the students should be treated fairly and if Alex does not get a warning then I shouldn't get one either." I explained. She gave the piece of paper and sat down in her office chair dumbfounded. I walked out of there like a boss. I walked back to class where Alex was already sitting back at our desk.
