"when you gonna realise, that i'm your cure?" - heartbreak girl, 5 seconds of summer.
✞ ✞ ✞
Chemistry is the single most boring lesson on the planet.
That is what was roaming round my head on that Friday morning during my monotonous lesson.
Well, that and several other thoughts about what I would to do Calum Hood if I had the chance.
But mainly just the boring thing.
Honestly, every day of my life when I have a chemistry lesson I regret my decision in taking it - I could've opted out when I had the chance like any normal, sane human being would have done, but like the other unfortunate few in my class, I was blinded by my ideas of how much more "fun" chem would be as I got older, and how it would "broaden my horizons".
I am such a fucking idiot.
As I sat listening to Mr Matthews drone on about balancing equations and the importance of differentiation between big and small numbers, my mind drifted to more pressing matters currently drowning my life.
One of which, was my ex best friend turned current best friend who was still avoiding introducing me to his popular friends. In case your brain is broken, or missing a few cells, and you haven't already realised who I'm talking about, I'll make it clear:
Aiden.
The one guy who managed to not talk to me for years, but could fuck my heart right up just by giving me the slightest glance in the hallways. And now we were reunited, appearing to be back to normal, and he was helping me forget about what had happened, just as he was himself. Everything was good with us; accepting the fact that he hadn't mentioned admitting to his friends that we were talking again.
Not that I was going to bring that up.
Or the fact that he abandoned me for years.
I would just do what I do best: bottle up all my feelings and not tell anyone what I'm thinking. Simple.
"Miss Williams, would you like to give us the answer or is whatever's on your desk more important?" The booming voice stretched out across the classroom towards me, and my eyes shot up from my subconscious doodles below to meet with Mr Matthews scrutinizing glare.
"Sorry, sir, please could you repeat the question?" I stuttered, trying to cover up my not paying attention.
He rolled his eyes in the least subtle way, and I resisted the temptation to reach out and slap his ugly bearded face right there and then. "What is the electronic configuration for this element?" He asked the question painfully slow, stretching out each word as if I was mentally imbalanced and circling the element in question on the board with his pointy stick.
Instead of stuttering like an idiot once again, I listened to the whispers of my favourite partner ever in the history of the universe, Jacob, who was kindly muttering the answer under his breath for me to repeat.
I confidently fed back the answer to my idiot teacher, who obviously lacked in the ability to cover up his complete surprise at the fact that I actually got an answer right. In your face, Mr SmartAss Matthews!
"Hm, very well." My teacher not-so-subtly mumbled, and instead of giving me even the tiniest bit of praise like any other teacher would have done, he coughed loudly to clear his throat and moved on swiftly from the quite embarrassing (for him) situation by telling us about the work we needed to complete in the remainder of the lesson. "Charlie and Jacob, please could you go to Mrs Hannigan's lab to get the textbooks? Be quick."
