Chapter 15

---

I woke up late for school and decided not to go again. What's the point? I'll just be humiliated again. My birthday is tomorrow. September 6. 16 years-old.

I didn't think anyone was home, thank god. So I got up, freshened myself up. All for nothing... I threw up, everywhere. I haven't had my morning sickness in who knows how long and it finally came back. Yay! I brushed my teeth and headed downstairs. Olivia was home and she was just lying down and watching tv.

"Hey." she said as I walked into the kitchen.

"Hi." I headed over to the cabinet and pulled out cereal and a bowl. It was 11 o'clock and the ocean looked beautiful from the kitchen window. Majestical as ever. The door bell rang and Olivia got up to get it.

"Chass, it's for you." she came over and a tall figure followed. It was Jared.

"I'll be outside." and she walked out onto the deck. I continued pouring cereal and acted like Jared wasn't there. I felt his presence coming closer towards me. My heart started to beat faster, I didn't know why but I started to picture Jared shirtless... Like he was a couple weeks ago in his room.

I poured milk into the bowl and walked around him to the island and sat down in the chair. He followed and stood across from me. "I'm so sorry Chassidy. I never meant to say any of those things." he said sincerely. His head hung. I don't evern remember a time when Jared felt so bad about something.

He probably was right that Brendan will never come back but he was also probably wrong.

"Look, I know tomorrow is your birthday and I'd like to make it up to you. I'm gonna take you out for a movie, nice and relaxing. Just as friends. Okay?" I had nothing else to do but to nod. I probably won't go to school anyway so that means I could do something later that night. He smiled and I smiled back.

"So, I guess I'll see you tomorrow?" he asked.

I nodded and said "Yeah." He then left and I continued eating my cereal.

Lucky Charms was my favorite, we always bought the family size and I was the one always eating the whole box in a week. When I was done I went back up to my room to put on my bathing suit, to catch up on the tan that was starting to fade. I headed back downstairs to the deck and put out the inflatable in the pool.

It was pretty hot out for it to be September and the fact that it was almost 12, the sun was directly above us. I stepped in from the shallow end and sat carefully on the inflatable. I soaked my self in tanning oil and put on my sunglasses. I laid out on the water and listened to the waves crashing down. I heared muffled talking in the distance. An hour had probably gone by and no interruptions or distractions from anyone. And I fell asleep...

*Layla's POV*

Chassidy hasn't been in school for a week already. I haven't seen her or talked to her since the day Tara's minion spilled her lunch all over Chassidy.

Zoe and I have been calling her and sending her messages for days and Chassidy hasn't answered one. Zoe and I decided to go over her house once school is done and see how's she doing. We pulled into the driveway and I jumped out before Zoe even put the car in park.

"Should we knock? Or just barge in?" Zoe asked.

"Let's just knock because if we call her and tell her we're here, she's not gonna let us in. And it's rude obviously to barge right in."

So that's what we did. We knocked and Olivia answered it.

"You know she's not going to want to see you two." Olivia laughed.

"Yeah, but we want to see her, and if she doesn't like it too bad." I said.

Olivia sighed and said, "Hold on, I'll go get her. You can come and sit in the living room."

As she walked up the steps, Zoe and I sat on the brown leather couches. "Something doesn't seem right. We does Olivia seem so nice? She used to be the wicked witch in this family." Zoe sounded confused. She was right, when did this new person change?

"She's out in the pool. Half asleep. I suggest you don't say anything that'll make her mad. She's been a little... Not herself." Olivia smirked and walked off. I headed toward the deck and just stared.

I hate to admit it, but Chassidy was always prettier than me. In everything she did, everything she said, wore, thought of. As for Zoe, I thought the same. Chass looked so precious like many little diamonds curled up close together. Shining bright in the sun. Nice glossy skin.

I walked out onto the deck and down the stairs towards the pool.

"Why are you here?" I heard her speak while I was sat on a lounge chair.

"To say sorry. And to see how you're feeling."

"Heh, funny. So are you confessing to the secrets you didn't tell me. How could you? Do you not know what I'm going through? And you decide to keep stuff from me?" she started to raise her voice.

Her temper gets really bad and as of now, it's worse than bad.

"You know what Chassidy, I'm trying to keep you safe and help you out, as I was told by your boyfriend. If you weren't sleeping around with him, he wouldn't have left and everything would be the way it used to be." I told her.

"Get out!" Chassidy yelled getting off the inflatable and out of the water. "Get out of my house, I don't want to see you anymore!"

I sighed. "Happy birthday..." and I left grabbing Zoe with me.

Things are different now. People change and new things become of it.
