"If" is possibly the saddest word in the dictionary
Two letters, yet a thousand stab wounds
"If" I was pretty, his eyes would still be on me
"If" I was skinny, he would've held me tighter
"If" I was taller, he wouldn't have lost me in the crowd
"If" I was younger, he would still be in love with me
But no
Instead, I am left with the bitter "What if"s of a breakup
"What if" I hadn't graduated
"What if" I hadn't been so shy
"What if" I hadn't held my tongue
"What if" I hadn't poured my heart out to a boy whose head is still in the clouds
Now
I am alone and I know
"If" we're meant to be, he wouldn't have left in the first place
"If" I am strong, I won't take him back no matter how much I ache to be in his arms
