Unknown POV

Scarlett hesitated, her breath hitched ever so slightly. She opened the letter, ever so gently, being careful not to make a rip-not that it really mattered anyway.

She quickly scanned through the letter, not even thinking twice, biting her lip. 'There. There it is' Scarlett thought to herself.

Positive.

It was Ivan's child, not knowing how to react, she just sat there, her face a total blank canvas. Should she feel happy or should she feel guilty. Well, right now to be honest she is feeling some of both and a lot of 'oh my god I'm going to throw up' .

She stood up and headed to Dan, he enveloped the teary eyed girl into his arms, wrapping them tightly around her.

Scarlett felt happy and relieved but also sick and full of regret. She didn't mean to hurt Ivan, she was selfish. She wanted Dan and Ivan just for herself. She blames herself that she didn't spend enough time with him.

It was a god-given miracle that the child was Ivan's, it was the only thing Scarlett had left of him. Matthew reminded her so much about him. The resemblance was a spitting image of his father. He had Scarlett's beautiful grey eyes and her nose. Ivan's chocolate brown hair and lips.

"Dan, I-" she chokes.

"Shh, don't worry love. I know what you're going to say so to answer it simply, no. I am not going anywhere." He whispers, enveloping her into a tight, reassuring hug.

"I miss him Dan.It should be me that's dead, not him, he didn't deserve that. I'm the one that does, I am a worthless, stupid, good-for-nothing, two timing, bitch who wants everything to herself. I don't deserve this, I didn't deserve him and I don't deserve you, Dan. I'm the biggest fuck up the word has ever seen."

"Scar, you don't get it do you? I've loved you ever since we were stupid teenagers. I loved you then and I love you now. I still remember the day we met. It's one of those memories you never forget; they're either scarring or so beautiful they stay with you forever."

"Sorr-Oh sorry Arlie, did I walk into something." Anna said as she entered the room again. "Sorry to disrupt you two, but I best be off. Bye loves. Dan I need to talk to you for a second." She said dragging him to the front door." Dan, dear we both know after losing Ivan, Scarlett is simply not the same person she was before. Please take care of her for me, she is like the daughter I never had. It would kill me to see her leave as well. Please promise me you will take care of Matthew and her."

"I promise."

She nodded in acceptance and gave him a small smile then walked out of the door. Dan was lost in his own thoughts. Scarlett wasn't the same Scarlett he had met many years ago. The girl with the chocolate brown hair and beautiful grey eyes. The girl who got embarrassed after tripping over her own two feet in front of his desk. No, she was different. Her grey eyes didn't sparkle like they used to. Her hair was dead from all the hair dye. Her skin didn't glow, the bags under her eyes were darker than the night. She was the complete opposite from what she was. It was obvious she was still mourning over Ivan. Recovering from a traumatic heartbreak. The words "It should've been me" passing through her thoughts more and more often.

But this is what she wanted all along right? To be settled down with Dan in London. To be financially stable and have a child?

If so, why did she dread this feeling so much?
