Music class is one of the subjects I’m looking forward for this semester, actually in all of the years I’ll be in this school. I’m more of an artsy girl, who is in love with all the things this school could offer – music, fashion, and arts.
It’s actually funny how I’m a frustrated song writer, even though I really love music and making them, throwing in different beats I could think of when I’m bored. They just won’t love me back in the same level.
Since I was six years old, my parents have enrolled me to different music program for the summer, until I find the one I’m in love with. It took me years to finally decide on taking drum lessons seriously, after trying out different instruments, from piano/organ to flute, violin to guitar, and then drums. I think I may have thrown in trumpet lessons in there, and maybe a small liking to harmonicas since my grandfather loved it so much, and I remember him playing it while resting on the porch on a fine afternoon.
“Okay children, listen up.” Mr. Keyes said sarcastically, getting everyone’s interest to the front of the classroom. I feel like a kindergarten right now. It was obviously the first day of class and I guess every teacher today will prefer to have a slow start, instead of going over the lessons.
“Since we will be together for the whole semester, I want us to get to know everyone.” He continued, and every student listening objected loudly in their seats, including me. Not again.
Though at least now I don’t have to work with Zayn. That’s a start.
“But we won’t do the cliché introduction. I’m thinking of something unusual, yet entertaining.” His face lights up with the idea he had in his mind. Perhaps his face is internally hooked up with Christmas lights inside his body at how obvious he was.
Mr. Keyes, our music teacher, started pulling out instruments that were located at the back of the room. Guitars, violins, trumpets, flutes, triangles, snare drum were a few samples of the instruments he laid down in front of the class. There was also a piano on one corner that has been sitting there since I got inside the classroom.
“So, I would like everyone to introduce themselves, anything you’d like to share. Then show off your talent, either play an instrument you can find in this section, or sing whichever you like, original composition, or your favourite song.” Mr. Keyes explained. Sure, it does sound fun.
“Also, I know most of you are like ‘Mr. Keyes is so boring’, ‘Why do we have to do this?’, or ‘I hope the others take so much time…’ so I have an incentive for the most creative, or funny, or talented student. I’ll pick one at the end of the class who will be given a free period, anytime he/she wanted to claim it during the semester, except exam days.”
Yup, he sure did have the attention of everyone now. Incentives are always the key word for having a student suddenly involved in class.
“Anyone wants to go first?” When no one raised a hand, Mr. Keyes decided to break the silence and introduced himself.
For a music teacher, I was hoping he would pick a rather attention-grabbing musical instrument, but imagine my dismay when he took a triangle and sat in front center of the class.
“My name is Landon Keyes, and since we’re in College, you can either call me Landon or Mr. Keyes, whatever you like between the two, and only the two.” He looked rather stern stating the end part, perhaps directing it to the girls who were trying to flirt with him. He seems young to be a teacher, but I’m not even interested.
There’s something wrong with me.
But then I remember reading a book about a guy and a girl falling in love with each other, an illegal one at that, it being a student and teacher relationship. Things get shaky when the teacher’s ex came back, planning a revenge on the current apple of the teacher’s eye, the girl being shot twice.
