Beat the clock
A motivational technique that uses your child's competitive nature to encourage her to complete task on your timetable. Here's how it works: Set a timer for the amount of time you want to allow your child to complete a task. Ask, ''Can you finish before tje timer rings?" Since children love to win, this allows them to win a race against time. More importantly, your child completes the task in a timely fashion without a power struggle. Our forty years of working with thousands of children and families have shown that beay the clock reduces parent-child conflicts because it transfers authority to a neutral figure: a timer.
