Chapter three:
{Libby}
We're driving on our way home, and Ari and I hear some of our favorite songs. Singing along with them, I can tell she is curious about something.
"What's up?" I ask her and she gives me a slight smirk.
I try to think if I did anything wrong. Well, besides my ankle that is. But I really can't think of anything, until she says it.
"He was cute. Is that your boyfriend?" She smirks once again and I gasp.
Why in the world would she think that? I literally just talked to him today. But I guess she doesn't know that.
"No, we're friends," I said. "I think."
"What do you mean you think?" She questions, not sure of what to think.
In all reality I'm not sure what I even think. When I'm back at school, this talking thing will probably blow over and we'll act like we never met.
But then again when I think of it, I might not really mind if it does. He seems really sweet and all, but I heard Meg talking trash about me. Meg is the 'leader' of the rood girls, and leave it to her to spread rumors.
That is the last thing I want to happen, is putting not only myself, but my friends in a bad position.
"I don't really know. Today was the first day we ever talked," I said. "and probably the last."
Though I say this, I can tell she is still confused.
"Why is that?"
It takes me a while to respond. It's going to sound totally lame, but she's my sister. She should know I'm lame by now.
"He's popular."
"Oh," she's stuck now. "I get how you feel, I've come across people like that. The people who act fine with you one day, and ignore you the next."
"That makes me feel so much better," I said sarcastically and she sighs.
"You know I didn't mean it like that," we're at home now. "I'm just saying I know how you feel."
I open the car door and see my mom is not home yet.
"Yeah. I guess."
A sensation of relief rises over me when I don't see her van and I head to the house as best as I can.
*I promise that rhyme was not intentional*
Steven comes out since he doesn't have classes today, and helps me.Ariana heads back to school after I gather my things. She also has tests and Cade wouldn't have a ride home if she stayed.
"Thanks." I tell him as he hulls me up the stairs to my room.
"Yep. Now tell me what happened Libby," said Steven.
So I explained what happened, leaving out the Hayes part. His face was mixed with multiple emotions, but mostly plainness and thought.
"You do realize that you broke that ankle a while ago, so it probably isn't good that you injured it again." He complained like every other person.
I'm glad that he cares and everything, but I just wish someone would say it wasn't a bad thing. Mistakes happen, I just hope he can understand that.
"Can't you just say 'I'm sorry this happened Libby, it will get better soon. It wasn't your fault'? Something like that," I let a big breath out while he places a pillow under my foot with ice and hands me the remote with my laptop.
