Chapter nine

{Libby}

I stare blankly at my father in disbelief of the fact that I have to be stuck here overnight. In the same vicinity as Hayes. Not like he's a bad guy or anything, but it always seems to be Hayes that I see, everywhere. Whether it's intentional or random, it's always him.

"Libby? Is that okay?" my dad says softly and I completely forgot he was next to me.

"Yeah dad, it's fine." I smile reassuringly and he plants a comforting kiss on my head.

It's going to have to be okay.

The chip bag from the machine falls into the slot as I wait for Skylynn to come out of the bathroom. Hayes asked if I could take her because their mom was busy on the phone.

After a few more minutes of waiting, I hear a toilet flush and the sink water run. Soon followed by little footsteps running my direction.

"Sorry I took so long! I had to go so bad!" She admitted and stuck her hands up to the glass, looking at the variety of candy.

"It's okay," I giggle to myself slightly. "Do you want something?"

She stuck her tongue out and licked her dry lips while nodding rapidly.

"Skittles please!"

I then entered a dollar, and to our luck, the machine dropped two bags instead of one.

"Now instead of two dollars, we only put one!" Skylynn laughed at the situation but was genuinely happy that she got two bags and not just one. "Let's give this one to Hayes!"

"Yeah, he'd probably like that." I smile and we then walk to their room.

A little ways down the hall, she grabs ahold of my pinky until we reach our destination.

The door flings open as she skips through, in search of the boy.

"Hayes!" She calls out and he soon appears in front of us.

"What?" He bends down to reach her height while poking her stomach, causing her to laugh.

I smile and he looks up at me with a smirk. I didn't mean for him to see me smile, Skylynn was just funny.

"We got you skittles!"

She holds them out proudly in front of her while he grabs them out of her hands.

"Wow, thanks. This was your idea I'm assuming?" He turns to me, cocking his head to the side.

"No actually, Skylynn wanted to give you them." I explained and he looks slightly shocked.

He chuckles to himself and Skylynn smiles at her accomplishment.

"Skylynn, you did this?"

After smiling even wider, she nods her head and rolls back and fourth on her feet.

"Thanks little sis." He tears open the packet and shoves a handful of the colorful candy into his mouth.

All of a sudden, his eyes grow wide with excitement and he squeezes by us with running feet.

Right behind us sits a movie machine, almost like redbox, but a different brand. And sure enough he is putting money in to have it spit out The Secret Life of Pets.

"Libby, wanna watch a movie?" He turns back around to face me with a smile.

"Hey! Me too!" Skylynn stamps over to us.
