Chapter seven

{Jordan}

Today I offered to go with Allie to cheerleading practice. Not only am I there for her but I am hoping to see Hayes. The football team also has practice today and he's the quarterback, so he should most likely be there. So because of that reason, I put some effort in my appearance by applying a little more makeup then usual. I also pick some clothes that suit and shape my figure but are comfortable at the same time.

My phone starts buzzing after I get myself ready with Allie texting me.
*idk if that makes sense lol don't mind me*

We arrive at our school and I get a feeling in my stomach that something isn't going to go right. But I shake the thought off and continue to the spot behind the bleachers where practice is at today. While I'm strolling behind Allie, I try to spy on the football players practicing. The quarterback normally has a different color scrimmage jersey than the other players do. And sure enough, I see the only mud and grass stained white jersey. The rest of the football players are still dirty and stained, but they have red jerseys and not white.

"Jordannnn..." Allie whined making me snap out of my distraction and focus back on the squad.

"Sorry." I slightly smile towards her.

As the girls continue to practice, the football players do too. I'm pretty sure football practice runs longer than cheerleading does, but they both end at the same time. Maybe I can just talk to him when we're both walking to our rides.

The girls practice their dances, tumbling, jumps and cheers one last time before everyone leaves.

"You did really good. I could never bend like that." I let out a laugh while she is taking a drink of her water.

While she was doing that, I was scanning the area to find out if I could see where Hayes was. That is until he sees me first.

"Oh, hey Jordan. I didn't know you cheered." He confessed between breaths as he wipes sweat from his face.

"I don't, I just came for Allie." I replied back, starting to smell the odor forming on his sweaty body. I didn't mind though.

"Cool, she's really talented at it. She's been my cheerleader for a while."

His cheerleader? What is that supposed to mean?

"O-oh! T-that's cool. She is really good." I try and smile as much as I can, agreeing to his opinion. I'll have to ask her about this later.

"Yeah but I gotta run, I'll see you around."

And he is off to the showers.

Allie and I walk back to her car after she is done talking with her other cheer friends. I'm ready to confront Allie until she speaks.

"I saw you talking to Hayes," she said as she wiggled her eyebrows. "What was that all about?"

"Just random stuff. He asked if I was a cheerleader because I was at the practice," I pause. "And he also said that you are his cheerleader."

She slowly looks down at the ground, avoiding eye contact.

"Yeah..." she drags on. "About that..."

She explains to me how every year, the coaches assign a few football players to a cheerleader.

"Then we just buy them candy and gatorades and make them signs and all that good stuff," she smiles at me reassuringly, trying to cheer up my mood. "They've always assigned Hayes, Derek and Jay to me so when we were able to finally pick in middle school, I always pick them. Sorry I didn't tell you sooner but I didn't think it'd be important."

I'm still pretty angry at her but I guess it's not her fault. I shouldn't be so pushy about everything with him when we're not even a thing. But I like him and I'm not about to stop trying either. I'm jealous of her.

"Okay. I just didn't know what he was talking about."

{Libby}

As I'm looking through my things I purchased yesterday, I hear someone knock on the bedroom door. It's already half open so I peek around the corner to see.

"Hey Cade," I greet as he walks in further, taking advantage of the fluffy chair in the corner.

"Hey," He returns.

I gradually turn to face him as I organize my things. I actually plugged in my desk decoration last night and it looks really pretty. My dad doesn't have many "homey" decorations the throughout the house so I buy some of my own. And from the looks of it, it's turning out pretty good. Just how I had planned.

"You excited for the project?" He snickered and nudged my shoulder, hinting at his sarcasm.

I rolled my eyes in his direction and continue to organize.

"Hey, I get it," he holds his hands in the air for emphasis. "School sucks Lib, I've been through the whole science fair crap before."

The thing he didn't mention is that he didn't even have to try and he still aced it. He's gotten straight A's his whole life. The material just comes to him easily. But a science project is not so much about being able to impress people with your brain, but the capability to convince people your law while still impressing them in a physical manner. Something they can watch and experience to hopefully impact their knowledge on something they knew little about. And he still exceeded the highest scoring kid in the grade above him.

"Yeah but not everyone can be perfect at it like you. Do you know how mad mom would be if I got lower than a high B?"

He sighed and pursed his lips together. "Yeah, I know. I'll just help you."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah I'm sure." He lightly smiles and pats my shoulder while climbing on the floor next to me.

"Thanks," I breathe and return the smile.

"But before we start," he pauses and I'm silently hoping that he isn't about to make a deal with me. "Who was that kid you were talking to yesterday?"
