Scott watched as Kayla rinsed the soapy dishes and then dried them before neatly staking them on the clean counter.  She washed dishes well.  Even though that was an absolutely positively cheesy thought it was very true.

“You missed a spot.”  Kayla joyfully announced as she pushed the sauce pan under Scott’s nose.

Scott saw the large second of sauce on the saucepan but decided to make a big deal out of it.  He had been too busy watching Kayla to notice it.  “What?” He asked as he squinted into the pan.  “That tiny little smudge?” He inquired.

Kayla tossed the pan back into the soapy water allowing a shower of suds to land all over the front of Scott’s shirt.  Kayla giggled.

Caught up in the moment Scott scooped up a handful of suds and smeared them across Kayla’s giggling face.  Her laughter stopped immediately as she stared at Scott with wide eyes.  For a second Scott’s blood ran cold.  He prayed that Kayla wouldn’t react like Tori would if he’d ever done that to her.

Swiftly Kayla grabbed the sprayer…the one connected to a long hose, the one that could drench a person in seconds.  With one smooth movement she flicked the tap on and pressed the button letting a drenching shot of icy cold water hit Scott directly in the face.

Kayla let out a playful shriek as she held the small button firmly.  Scott made his way to the culprit, trying to avoid getting any water up his nose, and finally clamped his hands around the handle.  For a moment the two wrestled over the sprayer until Kayla slipped and fell to the floor, brining Scott with her.

He landed next to Kayla with a small thud and laughed with her.  He had never been so free, so happy, had so much fun in his life.  Scott glanced over at Kayla, who was also drenched, and caught her eye.

“Sorry.” She said between burst of laughter.

Scott slowly stood up, careful not to slip, and extended his hand towards Kayla.  Thankfully she took it but slowly slid her had out of his when she was up.  This is perfect.  Scott thought to himself.  I now have an excuse to suggest using the fireplace.

And that is exactly what he did.  A few minutes later they were sitting beneath two fuzzy blankets sipping homemade hot cocoa in front of the fire.

Kayla couldn’t believe what she was doing.  Was she really sitting comfortably in the crook of Scott’s arm?  Was her head really nestled against his shoulder?  Her heart pitter pattered widely when she asked herself these questions.

“Why did you choose to open an antique shop?”  Scott said in a rather sleepy content voice.  They had both finished their hot chocolate long before this moment.

Kayla sighed and nestled deeper into Scott’s shoulder.  “”I’ve always been interested in old things.  When I was little I would wander through antique stores for hours.  I always wanted to won one.  I never realized how hard it was to keep one going.”

“Hmm.” Scott thoughtfully sighed.  He pulled Kayla a little closer and rested his head on hers.

“Thank you.”  Kayla mumbled just loud enough for Scott to hear her.

“For what?” Scott asked.

“For this night…for everything.  When I first met you I thought you were a stuck up guy who only cared for himself.”

Scott chuckled.  “You thought I was like that?  I was like that…probably still am.”

Kayla raised herself so she was looking into Scott’s eyes.  “What?”  He asked nervously.

“If you really were like that then you must have changed.”  Kayla playfully touched his forehead with the back of her hand.  “You don’t feel hot…are you sick?” She asked.

Scott smiled and playfully rolled his eyes. “Perhaps I have changed.  Maybe I realized how selfish I was…when I met you.”

Kayla realized her had was still resting on his forehead.  Slowly she brushed it down his cheek and to his shoulder where she let it stay.  “I like the new you.”  She whispered.

Scott reached up and ran his fingers down the side of Kayla’s face. Tingles ran down Kayla’s spine as she turned her faced and kissed his hand gently.  Scott drew his hand to the back of her head and gently pulled her head towards his own.

He gave her plenty of opportunities to pull away but Kayla didn’t want to.  She longed for what was to come next.  As their lips met everything felt…right, perfect actually.  Nestled together with the fire crackling gin the back ground suddenly was the only thing Kayla wanted.

Scott pulled away.  “I’m sorry.”  He breathed.  Kayla moved in closer and kissed Scott again.

“Sorry?  For what?” She playfully teased when she pulled away.  He wrapped his arms around her tighter and brought her into another kiss.  The evening was perfect.

But perfect evenings don’t last forever.  Suddenly light flooded the room as did a woman’s screeching voice.

“What is this?!” The woman bellowed hysterically from the doorway where she stood.

Scott stood quickly and Kayla followed his lead.  Standing in the doorway was a petite woman.  A woman who was dressed head to toe in expensive apparel.  Her hair was perfectly pinned in place, her makeup wasn’t smudged or overdone.  Everything about the middle aged woman looked angelic except on little detail…the horrified look plastered on her face.

“Mom…” Scott started in a panic.  Mom? Kayla thought to herself.  She felt her whole body being engulfed with dread and fear.  She felt as if she were going to collapse but she willed herself not to.  This was not good.  His mother was supposed to be out of town and from the tone of Scott’s voice he thought she was supposed to be out of town too.

“Where’s Tori?” The woman spat out in full furry.

“Mom…” Scott started again.  He had his hands raised defensively in front of him.

“Where is she?”  The woman flat out yelled.  “Who is this?”  She shrieked with out of control rage.

“Mom let me explain.” Scott begged.

“Explain what? Explain how I’m gone for two days and when I come home your kissing some…some…some lowlife scum!” The woman’s words stung more than the screeching.  Kayla knew her cheap clothing gave away her status.

Kayla is not a lowlife!” Scott yelled back venomously.

“I want her out! I want her out right now!”  Scott’s mom demanded.  She looked horrified.

Scott grabbed Kayla’s hand and practically dragged her from the room and away from his mom.  He was shaking with anger and Kayla was numb with shock, luckily the shock kept her tears from falling.

Once again I didn't proof read this but this was supposed to be part of chapter 23 (and it is) but I got tired of typing the other day.  Just pretend it is one long chapter.
