Scott knew who Kayla’s sister was…Emma.  He looked up her address in the phone book and was shocked to see that she really did live in the same city as him.  His heart thumped wildly as he tired to think of how to reach Kayla…after all, it was Kayla he’d seen at the café, he knew it with all his heart

Should he call her?  Should he go to Emma’s house?  Should he camp out on her doorstep?  As Scott conjured up his plan his mind took him to the day he’d found her store closed.  She had purposely tired to avoid him before he left he reminded himself.  How would she feel if he suddenly appeared on her doorstep with an armload of flowers?  She’d probably punch him in the nose.  It was probably best to pretend like their eyes never met in the small cramped café.

Kayla opened the door to her sister’s apartment balcony and took a deep breath of the early morning mucky city air.  She coughed a few times before she closed it and sighed.  The city was not like her small town.

Emma rustled around in the kitchen as she prepared breakfast.  Not only did Emma have the whole day planned out but she also planned a scavenger hunt in a sense.  Emma was convinced she’d find Scott today; in fact, she had done all the research and knew exactly where the man lived.  All it would take was driving through a ten foot thick fence, twenty gazillion security cameras, and probably a hundred body guards or so.

After seeing the house, on the internet, Kayla decided that her love for Scott was not worth it.  She couldn’t imagine living in a place like that or even meeting his parents.  Seeing the house made Kayla wonder why Scott had ever chosen her little town to stay for the summer.

“I’m pretty sure I know where his house is.  Tom showed it to me on our first date.”  Emma called from the kitchen.  Kayla cringed at the thought of showing up at Scott’s house.  Somehow she’d have to get out of it.

“It’s basically the biggest house in this area.  It’s right on the outskirts of the city and its back in the trees a bit.”  Emma rambled on.  Great, let’s add another thing to the list of things we have to wade ourselves through…now we have to trample through a forest of trees. I thought to myself as Emma continued with her description of the house.

“You know…I’d rather just go window shopping the whole day.”  Kayla offered as she entered the small kitchen.

“Kayla, you hate window shopping, remember?  And how bad can it be?  We’ll go to his house and sit outside the gate and try to see if we can see him pacing around his yard or something.  Then we can go window shopping.”  Emma said as she handed Kayla a plate full of pancakes drenched in syrup.

“I feel like we’re going to hunt movie stars down.”  Kayla moaned as she tried to eat the sugar infested mush on her plate.

“If we were hunting movie stars we’d be coming up with a plan right now on how to scale the fence so we can take a picture of them in their living room.  Since it’s just Scott we are perfectly alright with sitting in front of his fence.”  Emma smiled mischievously and scooped up a forkful of pancake and maple syrup.  She shoved the forkful in her mouth and dabbed at the syrup that had decided to dribble down her chin.

“Besides, what else is there to do except make a few minor changes to my wedding?  Mom said she has the whole thing under control and all I need to do is relax.  Mom loves weddings you know.”  Emma said.  Kayla knew where this was going and she really didn’t want to hear it.

Joyce did love weddings.  She had planned Kayla’s wedding out and Emma’s first wedding.  Both of the weddings were somewhat simple yet elegant.  Sadly both weddings had sad endings.  Todd never showed and Emma got a divorce.  Now Joyce was probably scampering around with last minute things she thought she had to do.
