Some people have been pointing out (And thank you so much to those who have) that I've spelt stalker...stocker.  I know it's wrong but it's not going to be changed for some time because it's just not.

Like most mornings Kayla’s alarm clock went off before the sun had even decided to rise.  She didn’t mind though, she liked to get up early and get a start on her day.  Morning was probably Kayla’s favorite time of day.  Coral was still asleep and a quiet serene feeling filled her heart as she watched the sun come up while she made breakfast.

But today Kayla wasn’t feeling that happy feeling.  Instead she felt as if a rock had replaced her heart.  Dread weighed down on her like this was the last day on earth for her.  She had had a dream during the night…no, it was a nightmare.  It started off peaceful enough.  She was sitting in a green field watching a little bird on the hunt for worms.  Trees surrounded her and her little field was only about ten feet in all directions.

While watching the bird she saw a shadow in the forest.  She wasn’t scared, she knew who it was…Todd.  He looked better than ever.  His brown eyes sparkled in the morning sun as he approached her with his arms out, as if he wanted to embrace her.  She stood to let him do so.  But while giving Todd a hug she felt a sickening feeling.  She opened her eyes to find another woman standing a ways back in the forest that surrounded her and Todd.  She was staring at them with jealously in her eyes.

Kayla pulled away from the embrace and pushed Todd gently away to look in his eyes only to realize that it was Scott she was hugging…Scott, not Todd.  The woman entered the small field and took Scott by the arm…then she led him away.  That was it.  There were no words spoken between them.  Kayla woke up crying.

Now at the kitchen table she stared drearily into her cup of orange juice and poked at her scrambled eggs.  What did the dream mean?  Was it a warning to her that Scott was just like Todd?  Kayla already expected as much.  She was just going on one date with him to satisfy his craving and then she could be done with him.  But she also felt terrible for going on just one date.  She knew that one date most likely turned into another and another.  She couldn’t let that happen.

The sooner the date was over the better.  That was what Kayla kept reminding herself.  Several times she almost talked herself into not showing up, but that would be the worst thing to do.  If she didn’t show then Scott would torment her for the rest of her life.  She saw no way out of the mess.

Scott woke up early Thursday morning with butterflies in his stomach.  He had a date with Kayla.  He had to make sure everything was absolutely perfect for her.  Of course he’d realized that she wasn’t in for fancy expensive food so he’d decided to settle on something a little bit more casual.  A picnic in the park and then a walk around the park would do just fine.

Scott had also decided to cook this meal.  He’d gone to the store the night before and had picked up a few essentials.  A picnic basket, picnic blanket, some cold cuts, hoagie buns, watermelon, a picture to hold some water, plastic picnic dishes, and a kite.  Scott wasn’t sure how to fly a kite but he felt it might be a romantic way to spend the evening.

Now Scott was going through the picnic basket again, checking to see that everything was in place.  As soon as he saw everything was in check he took a long shower, dabbled on some expensive cologne and dawned his newest apparel.  Now he just had to wait until six to pick up his lovely date.  How could he go wrong tonight?

Cody walked into Kayla’s store in a sour mood.  It was obvious he didn’t want to be there.  He grumbled the through his whole shift.  There was either too much dust building up on the antiques or Kayla was piling on the work load too heavily.

“Why don’t you just go home?”  Kayla finally asked.  She was at the end of her rope.  She was already stressed out from her date that would be in a matter of hours.

Cody looked at Kayla with a puzzled look on his face.  He was oblivious to his sour mood apparently.  He finally nodded and left the store.  As he was leaving he bumped into a customer.

“Can I come in?”  The customer asked.  Kayla looked up from what she was working on and wasn’t surprised to see that the question had come from her own personal stocker.

“We had a deal.”  Kayla said.

Scott held the door open and didn’t leave.  What was he doing here?  And so early?  He seemed to read her mind because he ended up answering her question.  “I just came by to tell you that you look great.”  He said.

Kayla didn’t have a response for that.  She thought briefly about telling him he looked great too…she stopped herself and for the millionth time since she’d met the man she scolded herself for her thoughts.

“I mean…” Scott said and Kayla thought she saw him blush, just a little.  “I mean you look great as in you’re wearing great clothes for our date…tonight.”  He smiled and looked her over.  Kayla felt a little self conscious and a lot uncomfortable.

I think this chapter might be short... I guess I'll find out once I publish it.  I haven't edited it (not that I ever edit very good) so there might be a few mistakes here and there...more than normal I mean.

And one more thing before the question.  I put a chapter up in my Purple Alien book.  It's   9. Questions about my other story...Pathway to My Heart.  I'd really like it if you went and read those and answered them for me.  They're just to let me know how you honestly feel about this story.  Please be honest when you answer them...and only answer them if you've read it.  (I guess if you haven't read this story you won't know that I said that)

QUESTION:

What was your favorite food when you were a child?     :)
