Is it weird to flirt with your guy best friend? Surely not. All guy and girl best friends have to flirt a little every once in awhile... I think...
Wait wait wait... Let me back track. We're not flirting. Chester's just telling me saucy jokes and cute little remarks. That's not flirting. That's the definition of flirting. My subconscious butts in, but I push that thought to the very back of mind.
But seriously, I expected Chester to be all moody the whole way to Boston, but he hasn't been. Not at all really. That's strange for a boy that has just been rejected.... Twice. But I'm definitely not complaining.
And now? Right now I'm stepping off the rusted up, over-used stairs that will lead me to the city I've been dying to get to for about two days. I was hoping to arrive in the brisk daylight and thick air of Boston Massachusetts, but instead, I'm stepping off into the darkness of the early A.M. Hours. Four A.M. To be precise. But hey, at least I'm here. My eagerness alone is enough to knock every ounce of sleepiness from my entire being. I'm ready to find, and save, April. I know there's a good chance I could be overreacting, and April could actually be fine, but I'm not taking any chances. Besides, this trip was worth the risking. Mishaps and all.
I take a deep breath before stepping off the stairs and entering the city that Sofia so very loves, and makes April tolerate.
I look around and take in this city. It's beautiful, all the lights and fast cars swishing past the bus station. But no matter how hard I look I can't seem to find what makes it all worth wild. Raleigh is just as great. The only thing we don't have is the sea. But we do have lakes! That's just as good in my opinion.
"You ready to see April?" Chester appears beside me.
I don't hide my eager smile and even let out a squeal, which makes Chester chuckle in response.
"Where to?" Chester questions.
I pull out April's letter and read the address, even though I'm pretty sure I have it memorized by now.
"177 token road, Boston Massachusetts."
I read the neatly typed print aloud to Chester. Who nods and points to a map inside the bus station.
I follow Chester's finger as he drags it along the route we need to take to get to April's house, and as fast as we came, is as fast as we leave. Before I even know what's happening, we're off and on a weird type of hunt in order to find April.
And I couldn't be more anxious.
.
.
By the time we enter April's neighborhood, I'm almost convinced somethings off . This isn't the neighborhood April showed me pictures of. This isn't the nicely polished community with big bright colored houses and a shinning sliver gate at the entrance. In fact, it has no gate at all. Rather a long narrow road that leads into another dark street lined with torn up houses and un-cut lawns. I really feel for April. This is nothing like what her mother promised it would be.
"Is this the right neighborhood?" I wonder to Chester.
"Yeah... Token Road, right there." Chester proves the seeming impossible with a point of his finger to the street sign above.
Even the street sign is old and worn , covered in dirt to the point where you can barely read it. As we continue down the filthy road, I literally start to fear for our safety. This shady street looks like that from a horror movie, and I'm just waiting for a chain saw man to jump out and kill us.
