"Lesley!" I hear my mother call from downstairs.
It's early.
Too early
Today starts my first ever first day of school without April.
The worst part is, I sent my letter a week ago and she still hasn't replied. I'm in no mood to even get out of bed to be honest.
Usually I would wake up even earlier in order to go to Aprils and rummage through the hundreds of clothing in her closet to find the perfect first day outfit, but today, I'm throwing on a T-shirt and jeans. Screw it. Who gives a crap about first day outfits anyways?
I quickly get dressed and head downstairs where my mother and Chester are waiting for me.
Chester adjust the color of his purple polo before swishing his hair, and flashing his award winning smile at me.
I return the smile and head toward the hall closet to retrieve my backpack and black vans.
"Are you excited for our first day?" Chester asks as I return to the kitchen and sit next to him at out kitchen table. My mother sits a cup of steaming tea in front of Chester which he fills with three packets of sugar before taking a sip.
"Ha-ha. Yeah. I'm overjoyed!" I say sarcastically while spooning lucky charms into my mouth.
Chester gives a light chuckle and the kitchen fills with a comfortable silence.
All too soon it's 7:30 and I'm forced to go to school.
Me and Chester start the block long walk to school with a light conversation over our classes and teachers.
"Am I bothering you?" Chester asks randomly after a moment of silence.
"What?" I laugh.
"Well it's just.... I don't know, usually your more... Bubbly. I mean, I know you miss April and everything but I've known you just as long as April has." He states then pauses as if he's trying to think of what to say next. "You kind of act as if you have nobody anymore but, I'm here Les. I'm right here." He laughs waving his arms around to show his presence.
"It's not the same Chester." I reply roughly. I don't mean to be sour, but, he's being unreasonable. Of course I realize I still have Chester.... " You're not annoying me." I finally answer his original question.
He nods slowly. "Okay." He says. He stares at the ground, lost in thought I suppose.
We reach the school grounds and students entering the front doors comes to view.
"I'm gonna head to class." I nod and turn to leave Chester. A firm hand grasping my four arm jerks me back around.
"Sorry if I upset you I didn't mean to, its just-"
"LESLEY!" I hear a high pitch voice scream. I turn to see my good friend Megan running towards me. I shake out of Chester's grip and run to Megan.
"Don't worry about it Chester!" I call back as I run toward Megan.
She pulls me into a warm embrace that I gladly expect.
"Ah! I haven't seen you all summer! I missed you girl!" Megan exclaims.
"I know! It feels like forever!" I return her excited tone as we began toward the front doors.
"It's so sad April moved! I'm gonna miss her so much!"
Ha. She's gonna miss her.
I nod in agreement and quickly change the subject.
"We have first period together right? Art?"
