"So, you won't let us perform tonight? I thought you said you needed a band to fill in for the one who cancelled on you?"
Lynn's voice is shaky as she questions the man on the other line. She'd called and asked about the gig advertised at a local bar wanting a band to play because the previous one had cancelled on him. But just like all the others, he wanted nothing of Lyndsey's band. She was currently sitting in her one bedroom apartment, on the verge of becoming a screaming mess as she hung up on the man. Her mind raced about thoughts of harming herself. She was sick of life and she wanted out. Right now.
But what about the music?
What about Brian and Alex?
It doesn't matter.
I'm already dead inside.
What difference will it make.
No one cares. she thought.Tears streamed down her face for the third time that day and it was only 11 AM. Her life was a mess and she hated it. Ever since her ex-girlfriend Alexa fucked her over she'd been severely depressed. She didn't want help though, she was scared of help and she didn't want to ask for it. People judged her too quickly because of the way she carried herself, the way she expressed herself and the things that inspired her. Death, darkness, demons, the supernatural world; ghosts.
Most of her music was inspired by these things. It came naturally to her. It was strange to others but to Lynn, it made sense. She didn't know why, but it did and she liked it. Music was Lynn's go-to when she was feeling depressed but right now it wasn't working. She had to get out, she had to run, she needed to get away.
Before she could comprehend what she was doing, she was running out of her apartment with her keys in her hand and her guitar slung over her shoulder. Fresh tears stung at her eyes and threatened to spill over but she held them back. She ran and she didn't look back. She ran past people who gave her weird looks, people who she'd been friends with before her demons took her away, people who once meant something to her... And Alexa. And by the look of it she was on her way to Lynn's apartment.
"Lyndsey!" Alexa called, resisting the urge to reach out and grab the mess of a girl running past her. Lynn just ignored her, why is she even here? We haven't contacted each other in six months and suddenly she shows up wanting to see me?
"Lynn! Please stop!" Alexa sounds desperate as she runs after Lynn, weaving around people and between cars. Lynn ignores the desperate calls behind her and keeps running. She doesn't know where she's going but she knows she needs to keep going. She needs to get away from everything. She needs Alexa to leave her alone. "Leave me alone Alexa!" she yells, still running.
Alexa's breath hitches in her throat as she pulls herself to a halt. "Lyndsey!" she screams. Her ears fill with the sounds of screeching tires, shattering glass and ear piercing screams as she watches Lynn's body fall lifelessly to the road a few metres from the car.
Her heart pounds as she runs over to the car. The man climbs out, blood running down his face and smearing across his lip. "Call an ambulance!" he screams at Alexa. His voice seems distant as she focuses on the lifeless body in front of her. "Lynn..." she whispers. "OhmyGod."
She drops to her knees and the tears start falling. She clutches Lyndsey's hand and pushes the hair out of her face. Her face is cut and bruised, large areas of skin torn away on her arms and legs, her clothes torn to shreads revealing large wounds gushing deep red blood, glass and gravel stick out of her skin everywhere, her eyes remain opened but they look more lifeless than usual. Alexa's heart shatters much like the windshield of the car had and she sobs into Lyndsey's jacket, holding the girl with all her strength as somebody tries to pull her away.
Alexa screams into Lyndsey's chest, "Lynn! I'm so sorry! I l-love you. I never m-meant to hurt you L-lyndsey. I-I was scared... Scared you'd h-hurt me." she takes a deep breath, taking in Lyndsey's familiar scent. Her sobs grow louder as she holds onto Lynn tighter. "Oh fuck, please be okay. Baby please don't leave me in this fucked up world alone."
She holds on tight and screams "No!" as two people take a hold on her arms and try to take her away. The glass covering Lynn's body cuts into Alexa's skin but she doesn't care. It hurts more seeing the lifeless body in front of her. If only she'd gotten to Lyndsey sooner. She'd still be in her apartment and this wouldn't have happened.
Why was she running?
Where was she going?
What was wrong?
Why didn't she stop?!So many questions run through Alexa's head as her vision blurs. Hot tears sting her eyes, her heart pounds in her rib cage and her head spins. She feels herself being pulled off of Lynn and she hears voices, very distantly. "Check her pulse!" a female voice yells. Alexa drifts in and out of consciousness, catching glimpses of flashing lights and people in blue uniforms.
In her unconscious state she dreams of the memories she has with Lynn. Walking on the beach, shopping, going out for dinner, the day Alexa asked Lyndsey to be her girlfriend, holding hands, their first kiss, their first time together. Alexa felt as though these memories were being ripped away from her and there was nothing she could do about it.
