CHAPTER 13

As it turned out, my thought from last night thinking tomorrow was going to be fun was totally wrong. And today has not been a good day at all. If I thought today was going to turn out like this I would have shaken me and said stay in bed today, act sick or cut school - which I have never done in my life - but evidently, life right now in this exact moment, is not giving me a break.

I would have gladly done any of those options if possible.

But no. I'm gonna have to do this.

So with a deep breath I open the doors to what might be social suicide or social stardom for my repuation. Not that I actually had a reputation anyway. I was the girl with the weird golden eyes, and nothing about that screamed 'popularity'. This small town in Northern California tends to shy away from the weird and wonderful.

As I walked through the cafeteria, the doors slamming behind me, I immediately sense every single person staring at me, or most likely the person walking beside me, who by the way, had placed his arm over my shoulder in a protective manner.

I stare straight ahead but can't hold back from sweeping my gaze around the cafeteria, I steal a glance to my table and I see Lilly with her mouth ajar and the fork she was holding suspended in the air, her jade eyes wide as she sees me with the one person I never knew would actually want to be seen with me.

I lift my brow at Lilly and she composes herself so she doesn't look like a fly trap and gracefully puts down the fork in her hand and stares at her lunch tray for a second, then she glances up again and meets my eyes before winking. I laugh under my breath and roll my eyes.

I knew Lilly would understand. She always does.

Before I have a chance to grab a tray to get my lunch, I feel someone burning a scorching hole at my back and as I turn around I am met with the hard brown eyes of Ginger. I could practically see her hatred and jealousy for me shine through her eyes and weave over to me. It made me shiver and in turn making Xavier tighten his hold around my shoulder.

Ginger saw the tiny movement and I rested my eyes on hers again and I could practically see the steam coming out of her ears. It brought another round of shivers and Xavier must of felt it through our bond as he eased my nerves by sending calming waves of heat through my muscles towards my lower back. Which was surprising because his eyes would have to be glowing a little bit, but he has had more practice than me so I shouldn't be so surprised.

I shake off my reaction to Ginger's stare and settle into gettinig my lunch. Gently movinig out of Xavier's hold, I grab some strange looking meatloaf and a side salad with a bottle of coke and make my way to my table, which Lilly is still sitting at staring at me.

I ignore the stares as hard as I can but some emotion slips and the energy inside the overhead lights serge and I feel it tingle in my hands. I squash down the feelings and I feel my chest warm as a wave of calm serenity enters through me and I feel much better. I breathe a huge sigh, smiling at the welcomed feeling.

I know Xavier is near as I sit down beside Lilly and start eating my food. I hear a throat clearing and I tilt my head up and meet the sky blue eyes of the guy that is still, somehow, commanding the room.

I lift my eyebrow up, still eating, despite all the stares. "Yes, Xavier?"

Xavier runs a hand over his hair and he glances back to the student filled cafeteria that's still staring at him. At his glare they quickly turn around and continue with their lunch break. He breathes a sigh and shoves his hands in his pockets. "What are you doing?"

I lift both my eyebrows and give him a smirk. "I think it's pretty obvious what I'm doing."

Xavier rolls his sky blue orbs and laughs quietly. "I know what you're doing, it's just..."
