Chapter 18

I blanch for a second, just staring at him, my eyes wide and my mouth open.

Xavier leans back in his chair and crosses his arms along his broad chest, his hair mussed from when he ran his hand through his hair earlier. His eyes still holding the pain with whatever he went through.

"Y-you were what?" I squeak, my voice tight.

Xavier shudders but leans forward and grabs my hand, smoothing his fingers over my knuckles as if he was the one comforting me and it was supposed to be the other way round.

He stares at my hand, watching his fingers run along the contours of my knuckles as he speaks. "I was experimented on when I was smaller. Around the fourteen age mark, it was when we were living in Montana. I was playing with Linton, he was nine-ten at the time, when these two guys dressed in black decided to approach us," Xavier stopped, leaning back against the chair and dropped my hand, placing his hands on his lap, he nervously plays with his fingers as he continues, the sight of this vulnerability was kinda freaking me out.

"Well, these guys dressed in black suits approached me, I didn't know what they wanted. Mum and Dad were talking to friends just a little bit over where Linton and I were playing. They grabbed me and my parents didn't know I was gone until it was too late. I wanted to scream but the fear was chocking me and I just couldn't. I was that frightened."

Xavier lifted his eyes to me and my heart beat erratically at the look in his eyes. The complete and utter pain and suffering that experience that put him through. He was only fourteen when that happened to him.

I gasp and bring my mouth up to cover my gaping mouth. Holy crap!

"Xavier, I'm really sorry." I say helplessly, knowing it won't make it any better.

Xavier gives me a weak smile, appreciating it nonetheless.

I stare at him until he continues. "I don't really remember anything after that, it was all just a blur, different images here and there, faces scattering across my vision..." He trails off, his eyes haunted. "The thing that sticks in my mind is the smile of this beautiful woman, her eyes were the colour of violet but the look in her eyes was not of a kind person. She was evil. There was this terrifying, uneasy, darkness surrounding her. And power. So much power that it nearly engulfed the room. Her face is burned into my mind, although it's blurry, her eyes are the ones that I remember the most and I'll remember those violet eyes for the rest of my life."

He continued, looking at the wall, lost in his own thoughts. "The injections were the worst, it forced me to use my powers at a high degree. I was only trying to get a hold of them myself, as I was only young and the abuse of using them to a high level without my consent made them go crazy. I had absolutely no control over them if they injected me with that stuff. The stuff made me disorientated and I was unable to process what I was doing."

Xavier refocuses on me, his blue crystal eyes blazing. "I could hear the snippets on what they were saying 'He's powerful but not as powerful as we'd like, and, 'he's strong, I would like him to join my ranks, he's a special one.' I remember that last one perfectly, her voice was so alluring that I thought she was an angel fallen from heaven, but she wasn't. She sounded like something out of a nightmare, like Cinderella's horrid step-mother. I was on a table stretched out for goodness knows how long."
