CHAPTER 34

The next time I wake, I'm disorientated and I feel strangely comfortable. Too comfortable because I'm sure that the last time I fell asleep, I was lying next to Xavier on a hard floor and he was...he was...

My eyes snap open and I jolt up in bed, a loud gasp escapes my lips. "Xavier? Xavier?"

My voice is rising in panic because I don't know if this is a dream or real life. My head snaps to the door when I see a figure walk in and I don't expect to see this person coming into to check on me. They walk over to my bed and sit down, crossing their legs.

I regard them with trepidation. "Where am I?"

They sigh and lean forward. "You're at our place in Chicago. It was necessary."

My eyes widen and I quickly survey my surroundings. It looks like a guest bedroom. Comfortable colours and furniture fit for a queen. "Why am I here?" I ask as I meet eyes with the person that has come in the room to see me.

Comet sighs leaning back against the suede lounge chair, her boot clad feet rocking over her crossed knee. "You're here because it was the safest place without them trying to find you again."

I nod my head mutely but engage in conversation again. "Who is here with you?"

Comet shrugs, jutting her thumb back to where she had come. "All of us. They're down stairs...waiting,"

My eyes cloud over in confusion. "Waiting for what?"

Before she can speak Comet is interrupted by the doors opening and we both snap our heads to see who it was and my eyes widen and chest tightens, my heart pounding painfully. In that second all is lost and I'm locked into the gaze of the one person that I thought I'd lost forever, his blue orbs mirroring mine. In that one moment, I feel our connection threading around my heart again, this time much stronger, the titanium threads gripped around my heart and connected us again in the deepest way possible, and it was much more immeasurable than last time. My soul was connected to his. He is what held me to this place.

A mountain of feelings overcomes me at that exact moment. Relief, happiness, mirth, disbelief, warmth, anger, frustration and most of all, love. So much love that I thought I was going to burst.

I give a sharp intake of breath, my eyes burning with tears and jump out of bed, not caring if I was weak or not. I'm sprinting towards him in the few meters that separate us and I slam into him with such a force that it knocks us both over and we're both sprawled on the floor.

I kiss every inch of him, his hair, his forehead, his eyes, his cheeks, his nose and most of all his lips. Oh, god, I'd missed his lips. I'm so caught up in my exhilaration that I hardly notice Comet slip out of the room quietly and Xavier is trying to push me back to give him some space, when I pause he places us both in a sitting position.

I stop showering him with kisses then and look at his face, which was etched in a smile, but it quickly fades away as he sees me staring at him in disbelief.

"You okay, Sapphire?" The feeling that pounds through me as he talks for the first time and says my name overwhelms me and I close my eyes, relishing in the warmth it brings me.
