CHAPTER 27

Sapphire's POV

I don't know how long I've been in here for, but it feels like forever.

Maybe it's been a week or two?

I really don't want to be in here but I see no way out. I've tried to but it's no use, this place is locked up tight. I wouldn't be able to pick my nose in private without them seeing (not that I pick my nose).

Ugh!

"Please, let me out of here. I am no use to you."

I'm usually met with silence but this time I get a reply. "Oh, you are dearly mistaken, little one."

The voice that I hear is crackly but I can definitely tell that it's a woman's voice.

"Uh, and how would you know that?"

The person chuckles and even though there is interference a chill runs down my spine and I shudder.

The woman on the intercom snickers obviously seeing my reaction. "Are you cold, Sapphire?"

I try to arrange my face into a pleasant smile but it doesn't work, instead my mouth turns down into a sour grimace.

"No, I am not."

I can hear the smile in her voice and her tone is dripping with sarcasm. "Sure. I believe you."

I changed the subject because she was irking me. Why, you ask? She irked me because I just have this really bad feeling in the pit of my stomach and I just know that it's gonna end really badly. And she irked me because I hadn't even met her yet and she sounded like a complete and utter bitch. And I don't say that lightly.

"Look, who ever you are or whatever your name is, I don't belong here. I can't give you whatever you want from me. This is against human nature. You can't hold innocent people under surveillance, especially if you've locked them up like a bloody axe murderer who's gonna kill anyone that comes into their personal space."

I was getting worked up and I couldn't help the electrical charge that burst out of me and contributed to the lights flickering and my hands lighting up in a kinetic charge. I flicked my hands and it went away just as quickly as it came.

"That is why you are here."

I look up to the only camera in my hellish nightmare of a room. "What?"

The camera moves as if she's getting a closer look at me and I immediately moved back. "The reason you are here is the thing you've been trying to hide from others your whole life."

I let her words sink in and then I absent-mindedly glance down at my hands and I look up at the camera. "You want me because of my powers?"

"Precisely."

Xavier's story about what happened when he was a boy comes running through my mind and my heart beat increases. Shit. Shit. Fuck.

This can't be happening. This can't be happening. Mother-chucker!

Before I can freak out any more, the door slides open and Weird Eyes comes in and hands me a tray of hot food and a drink.

He smirks at me and places the tray on my little table near my bed.

"Here's your food, missy."

I stand there quietly, contemplating if I should eat it because I'm half convinced they've poisoned it but my other side that was incredibly hungry wins out and I go to the food in a second flat and eat like a fat kid on Christmas. I hear the automatic door slide shut and I pay no mind to it as I eat.
